The .375 with a soft point is a quite capable whitetail round, no big surprise. I can't see a reason to go up in power in these circumstances but I am not trying to shoot through trees or underbrush. ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

The original post indicated to me that Africa was not in this scenario, in which case the really big bores are not really ideal IMO..The largest practical caliber for this side of the pond would be the .338 Win, or perhaps the .375 H&H, but for the USA I personally would opt for a 338 if I was liminted to one gun. The .375 is just a wonderful round and will handle any task in skilled hands. Unless you do alot of shooting of really big stuff the .375 is just right IMHO. .22 LR Ruger M77/22 30-06 Ruger M77/MkII .375 H&H Ruger RSM

I have the CZ 550 458 Lott, The Remington 416, The 375 H&H, and the 338 RUM. I don't have any problem with witch one to take hunting.
