Hi all, this is not really big bore related, but I thought I'd ask the knowlegable folks here. Roto-Router came to our house yesterday to answer a call about a backed up toilet. They left after creating a lake in the basement. Luckily the water level didn't quite make it into the bottom of the safe. I did have several cases of ammo stacked in the corner of the gun room that got soaked. Do you think this will still be alright? Or should I just try and turn it over with the insurance claim? I don't think I'll try and salvage any shotgun shells. We have a long day of bleach water and wet dry vac ahead of us. There is stuff stacked all over the lawn waiting to be sanitized. Anybody know anything about Plumber Malpractice?

Insurance claim. You have a 50-50 chance with the ammo. Mil spec ammo is sealed around the primer and the case mouth so it stands a better chance.

If they are waterfowling loads, they may be waterproof. I'd check each box of shells to see if they were damaged; it may just be that the cardboard wicked moisure from the floor and there is no damage to the shells. I'd also think Roto-Rooter should pay for any damage caused by their efforts. George

We had a Restoration company out to survey the place tonight. We have a meeting tommorow morning here with the Restoration guy and Roto's insurance adjuster. I have 95 digital pics taken and burned on a CD for them. I had probably 3" of water on the gun room floor. The Restoration guy said to seperate anything that was submerged to start with for the insurance claim. Then he'll have his guys sanitize everything else. I wonder if they'll want to sanitize several 1000 cast bullets or if I should just make a list for reimbursement. I wet vacumed about 45 gals of water out of the basement carpets today. Now we'll have to make a detailed list of everything damaged. The restoration guy said they would clean all the carpets and floors in the house because we probably tracked some from the basement up. Everybody took their shoes off at the back door, but who knows. Is there any cleaning chemicals that could damage Barnes solids? I don't want to just toss them at $2 each. I have bulk jacketed bullets in 1000ct boxs also. Anything they shouldn't use on copper? I should probably find someplace to store my guns till the basement is finished. I put a new desicant package in the safe, but it probably won't be good for them to be in a damp basement for too long. I have 60+guns so I don't want to just put them in the closet. I have a 4 year old son also. Any thoughts on temporary storage of lots of guns? I haven't cleaned under the safe yet, it too heavy for me to move. I'll let them do that.

The insurance adjuster said to just inventory everything that got wet and they'd replace it. They are going to sanitize and repackage all my cast and jacketed bullets. My holsters and shooting bags that were on the floor have to go also. The restoration company is working pretty fast, they already have all the carpet torn out and the sheetrock is ripped out 4' up the wall. They're checking to see if the wood paneling will have to go. My son had a real talking Bubba. It got wet and we put it on the back lawn. It kept talking for several hours before the batteries gave out.
