Working up loads for a 375 H&H... Login/Join

I have a trip planed next April to Zim for a Buff, some plans game and backing up a buddy on his Ely hunt. I’m looking for a solid and a soft with some load help that will work in my Mod 70 classic. My goal would be for both bullets to regulate with the same scope setting. Any help would be much appreciated. John

I have now had seven rifles chambered in .375H&H since 1983 and currently have only two. My P-74 Alaskan in very choice condition and a custom "shorty" Grizzly gun, on a P-64 action with Micky stock, sts. tube and whatever.

I like to use 76.5-H-4350 over 300 NPs in WW cases with CCI 250s, this is NOT a "hot" load in MY rifles, shoots well under a moa and gives me 2540 fps. from my original's 25" bbl. and not much less from the short tube.

I went to 78.5 grs. with NO pressure signs, then backed off so that I would never have a problem due to a "tight" case. I ahve used other powders, but, while WW-760 would give 2600 fps. with the Nozzie, it is too temp. unstable.

I live in BC and only use this cartridge in northern Canada and this province, so, I have no experience with solids. HTH.

My suggestion would be to pick 2 different softs that you would feel comfortable using, and 2 different solids.

Pick a powder.

Start a load develoment using all four bullets at the same time.

Start low and work up, shooting each bullet with the same powder charge. Load 3 of each and shoot them at 100 yards.

Keep the targets writing the load info on them.

Soon you should see a pattern start to develop.

If loads get near max, and you do not have a soft and solid hitting together, select a different powder, and start over.

Repeat as necessary.

You may find that you need one powder for the soft and a different for the solid.

I've had five different 375 H&H caliber rifles over the years, three of them M70's they all liked R-15 (66 to 68 grains) with any 300grain bullet soft or solid just change the grainage of one if needed to shoot same POI. I used swift aframes and TB solids in the past today I use the Hornady DGS which shoot the same as the aframes.

I use RL-15 with 300 grain bullets. At 100 yards, Hornady's 300 gr. FMJ roundnose bullets and their 300 gr. BT Spire Points shoot to the same point of impact for me with the same powder charge.

Two loads that have worked for me:

270 TSX 76 gr R-15 2750 FPS 23" BARREL

300 SAF 80 gr IMR 4350 (CAUTION! NOT A BOOK LOAD) 2540 FPS 23" BARREL

Both loads use Win. cases and Fed 215M primers.

They say a picture's worth a thousand words so go no further: 375 H&H load

Works with every 300gr bullet I tried, but I load mine with 300gr Swifts and old-style Hornady solids. jorge

I used SAF 300 gr over 66 gr RL 15, to match Barnes solids over 65 grains RL 15. Just got the best combo of tightest groups and matching POI with that combo.

The PP came in at 2405fps. The solids at 2375fps. Both were sub MOA and same POI.

Just for something different try Vhitavouri N540. I got very consistent velocities and great groups with it. The velocities were better in both .375s I tried it with than RL-15. MMP
