Just saw the post of the North Fork Cup Point, specifically the 450 grain, .458 version. For those who have used this bullet, or if you just have an opinion, do you beleive this bullet will open up, as shown, on plains game like kudu, zebra, wildebeest, and such? Thanks.

Definitely will open up and not over expand.
They are like a grooved-shank Trophy Bonded Bear Claw.
Jack Carter would approve of the alloys used by North Fork, I am sure.
Solid copper shank and bonded lead nose core.

I shot a mature bull bison with the .423/380-grainer at 2525 fps MV.
One shot kill, spewing lung and blood out of the entrance wound.

I have the .423/340-grainer at 2700 fps ready for sub MOA all the way out to 300 yards, for my next African Sheep Hunt with the 404 Jeffery.

You will find no more reliable game killing bullet than the North Fork soft.

Never used the cup point but if I were planning on plans game I would go for the NF soft.

What it looked like after recovery from a bison hit at 80 yards, +2525 fps MV (2526 fps at 5 yards chrono of 404 Jeffery): It expanded on the hide going in, or the rib it broke, tore up the great vessels above the heart,
shredded both lungs, and was found in the muscle of the offside shoulder.
The bison stumbled 8 steps after hit, spewing chunks of lung and blood, then dropped.
This was only a 1300-pounder, tasty 3.5-year-old:

I would prefer the NF Soft Points for plains game.

The exception being giraffe. I used the 450 NF FP and CUP from my 450 No2 on giraffe.

The one CUP bullet I recovered had expanded a little.

They would be good on cape buff as well.

I have had some communication from "North Fork" also.
I have offered my wish-list input.
I hope it is a true .510"/570-grain bullet, SS (soft), FP (solid), and CP (Cup Point expanding solid which has been declared legal in lead-free California).

North fork "soft" = "SS" = "SP" = "SSP"

My second choice would be a 535-grain .510 SP.

I talked to North Fork several months ago and they said they were working on bullets with the 505 Gibbs and 500 NE, they would not give a time frame on it, but said it was in the works. These were the only two large bores I inquired about.

I shot a nice pig with the 470 cup point.
It entered the spine just behind the head of the pig traveled about 5 foot and was found under the hide at the tip of the ham. I am thinking of trying them in my 9.3 for deer to avoid excess damage.

With a 45cal, any solid would make a nice sized hole.
A 470 solid certainly does.

The CUP POINT SOLID isn't a PG bullet IMO....I used them exclusively hunting Cape buff from a 470 double and they worked perfectly....less penetration than a solid but lots more than a soft point. Perfect buff bullet IMO...if it feeds in your turn bolt. Perfect from a double.
