The front sight is attached in a curious way. I will try to describe it:

To remove the front sight ramp you have to knock the actual front sight out. By the way, the front sight is a copy of a mauser sight and the dovetail cut on the ramp will have to be opened up if you want to switch to a Williams or Marbles.

There is a single screw the holds the ramp to the barrel; kind of...

Actually, there is another dovetail cut in the end of the barrel. There is a part that slides into the dovetail. The ramp goes on over that and then you use the screw to attach the ramp to the part that fits into the dovetail.

I had the front sight ramp on mine reinstalled and soldered on. I also had the dovetail cut enlarged to take a large-bead Williams front sight.

I like the flip up rear sight, it works well with the scope. I have had better luck removing the sight blade and using the big "U" in the rear sight.

I have been working on sanding and polishing up the action and bolt and have gotten it as smooth as it's going to get. It's no FN, but it's a lot better now than it came out of the box.

BTW, I am taking this rifle to the "Hoot and Shoot" in Houston at the end of April and to ZIM for a buffalo hunt in May.

Hope this helps,

Al

pevtsovy I am looking at replacing the rear sight. I measured the base of the dovetail. It's 3/8 the same as a Williams? Is their a replacement adjustable fixed sight. I would like to be able to just knock out the old one and install a new one. Or will I have to replace the entire rear sight? I took measurements. outside Barrel diameter, screw hole distant center to center, ect. It appear that only the dovetail is the same? I placed a call to Williams but am still waiting on a return call.

Slider, I honestly don't know about the rear sight dimensions. I am keeping the rear sight as I like it. The only change I made was to file the u-shaped notch on the sight blade into a V.

I received a call from Williams today. I was told the barrel would have to be re-drilled and re-tapped to fit their screw pattern. My sights are good for 50 yards as set from the factory. I might measure them and just insert a new blade that does not fold over.

You can get a peep sight from Talley that will mount where the rear scope mount sits. You may want to try that.
