.50 American Eagle. It was developed to shoot .50 BMG bullets subsonic, and I need some advise on where to get either BMG or cast? The twist on my barrel is 1:10, and wondering if cast bullets would strip on such fast twist? Thanks for any help! Dennis e-mail me at dmadriaga@ascg.com

I know nothing about the 50 American Eagle, but if you are looking for BMG bullets for goofing off (read that non-serious target work) you can get pulled and sized BMG bullets in quite a few places. Wideners has them at reasonable prices, Natchez usually does, and I have seen them at Midway before. Sometimes the bullets are pulled and sized to remove distortion created during pulling, or they may be just pulled. If you are going to resize the bullets you can save a few bucks getting them non-sized, but if not, make sure you get the bullets that are already resized or they will shoot like crap. As far as cast goes, NEI has quite a few bullet molds available for 50 BMG type bullets, but from what I have been able to learn cast in the BMG has been anything but successful. I wanted to shoot cast in my BMG to cut cost when fooling around, but was told by those I trust completely that it's not worth the effort, but that was in barrels of 1:15 twist and at 2000 fps which about as low as you can go in the BMG case. Cast in the 50 AK work just fine but I'm not sure about the twist in my AK. I do know it's fast enough to stabilize the 750 gr. A-Max though; maybe I'll get around to measuring it someday when bored enough. I doubt you have to worry about stripping the lead bullet at such a slow speed unless the rifling is like the Marlin Micro-Groove, which I'm sure it is not. Anyway, check out these two links.

Thanks Big Bore! Guy I just met on the internet, has a NEI 625 grain GC DD bullet mold, and is sending me to try. If they work, it will be cheaper than the .50 BMG bullets. I'll see if they do strip lead? Local buddy, who has one of SSK's 50-70-750 T/C barrels, retreived some of his cast bullets from a RCBS mold, and he did say the rifling marks at the front of the bullet, was pretty wide, showing that it might have took a while before is started spinning? Accuracy was pretty good, and it was a plain base. I'm hoping the gas check might help maybe grip the rifling, plus going subsonic. Guy is also sending me some LBT SP at around 660 grains, but it is a plain base. Will let you know how they both work. Thanks, Dennis
