I've handled the cz's and the new model 70's and both of them felt really good to me. Have not handled any of the rugers. Have also considered finding a pre 64 model 70. A late friend of mine let me shoot his 10 years ago when I was 16. I was a dumb kid then expecting it to kick real hard. So I shoot it , didn't kick any more than the 300 winmag I had at the time. I loved it. He bought it at a pawn shop a several years ago and got a few boxes of winchester silvertip's with it I think they were. He shot it only a few rounds and put it in his gun cabinet. When he passed away he still had those original boxes of ammo, that is all it was ever shot. Now his brother has it. I don't think he shoots it either. What im wondering is if you would recommend to buy a new one or just try and buy that one or find one like it. "Science only goes so far then God takes over."

I'd try like hell to get that one your friend had! But absent that I give two thumbs up to the Ruger RSM, I've been very impressed with mine and had no troubles at all. It's got all the features most here desire in a heavy game rifle right out of the box. Just put a couple hundred rounds thru it to verify it's functioning and to sight it in and you're ready to go. .22 LR Ruger M77/22 30-06 Ruger M77/MkII .375 H&H Ruger RSM

I like the CZ and the mdl 70's, classic or pre, the Whitworth/mauser, I like them all. Just depends on what you run across. One thing about a 375, if you buy one and don't like it somebody will buy it. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

If you have them both tuned by a good gunsmith is a pre 64 really any better than a new model 70 aside from the Nostalgia?? "Science only goes so far then God takes over."

Went throught this a couple of weeks ago. What we found was the Ruger and CZ were both larger in feel than the M70 or the Whitworth. We liked the feel of the smaller rifles. Ended up ordering a M70 for my old boss. I'm holding out for a older Whitworth. For my $$ I would choose the new M70 vs the pre64. But, I have only looked at never owned a pre64. I do have a couple new M70. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
