Pfeifer10.75x68 barrels
Just thought it worth posting that I got an email back from Woody at Lothar-Walther today saying that the 10.75x68 reamer was on their list of "new" reamers and is in-house now

He also earlier told me that they can do either of the groove diameters and can also turn Ray's classic H&H barrel profile too. I would think the .423" groove diameter is the proper one for these??? I suppose I need to check Howe's "Modern Gunsmith" Vol-2 again for twist and barrel configuration.

.423 groove diameter is the only diameter for a 10.75 Mauser of whatever millimeter length brass. This is true.

AtkinsonRIP,
Lother-walther has both .418 and .423, as some Europeans request the .418 bore for the 404s, `10.75s and some Arms companies produced 404s in that bore diameter, so I think what he is saying you need to specify when ordering, and I recall someone on the forum got a .418 bore rifle and was haveing all kinds of fun!!

but, of course, you are correct in your post, all 10.75s and 404 should be .423....

PfeiferI just checked my copy of "The Modern Gunsmith" by James Howe and in his cartridge drawings in Vol-2, he has both the 10.75x68 Mauser and the .404 Rimless Magnum shown with .423 bores. A good reference / sanity check from years ago.

AtkinsonCogswell and Harrison had .418 bores in .404 Jefferys and so did another company but I can't recall the name..Some of the small shop English firms used .418 barrels I am told, I have only seen one and it was a C&H....

Pfeifer,
Are the Lothar barrels ready to go at this point in time? After a horrendous search I've finally located a reamer in Australia, but the chambered Lothar barrel would be much simpler... except now I need a smith with headspace guages...??
Cheers...

PfeiferI believe this is what I would infer from Woody Woodall's (works at LW) email as he said that the reamer was "in house". So I belive that they take a .423" groove diam barrel and "long chamber" with the reamer so all your g'smith has to do is set the headspace like you said - with gauges. The part I also like about going with an LW barrel is that it can be had with the very classy vintage H&H barrel profile...know which one I mean? I can post a pict of an orig I keep around.
Hope this helps,
Jeff P

You're more than welcome Jeff! This is a nice round, lots of power in a relatively small package and as you say low recoil (at least compared to the other stuff being passed around that day!).
