I have a 416 Rem and I have loaded to 2415 fps these solids that I got from Barnes 400gr. To try them out I shot a 3/4" steel plate at the range and they didn't put a dent in it they blew up into pieces. Thats why I would like to know if these bullets could go thru bone.

They should, since most bones aren't as hard as steel. Were these Barnes Original Solids, or Monolithics? George

I have five boxes of the Barnes Monolithics in 416 Rem Mag. They will go through about anything. Bone, boneheads, small block chevy engines, oak trees. I shot a 1/2 ton American bison a couple years ago (she wouldn't stay in a friend's pasture). It went in the head and came out the ass. For all we know that bullet is still going. The only think they won't penetrate is the lock box that democrats keep their powers of reason and critical thinking hidden away in. JCN

Ditch those Barnes bullets! I would use Speer Tungsten Solids if I wanted to punch holes in steel. Load that 416 Rem to 2450 fps and let her rip. ASS_CLOWN

Scott, the tungstens are shorter, i doubt you could get 2450 with a reasonable pressure load... might could, but i doubt it.. saeed posted a pick a plate he shot with LOTS of big fast rounds.. and only the tungsten insert itself went through jeffe

I don't use them, but I have seen a bunch of them work on about everything big in Africa and they worked just fine except in one case and one of them broke in half..but that can happen with any bullet... Steel is penitrated by velocity and velocity alone...a 4 gr. 220 swift at 4000 FPS with knock a hole in your plate..but it won't do much to a Buffalo or Elephant...Use a different media, and don't worry about the Barnes solid monolithic, it has proven itself time and again, and I'm not even a Barnes fan...

Nah, but sometimes the questions get to me. George

Ray, I believe everything is penetrated by velocity! Steel just takes more of it! I still say use the Speer tungsten solids! They are WAY better than any copper/bronze/brass monolithic solid for penetrating steel, bones, cement, flesh, etc. jeffeosso, the key to Saeed's experiment is that the Speer tungsten solid is the ONLY bullet which DID penetrate the steel plate!! GeorgeS, These were Barns R.N.Solid. #41660 I thought that they should at least put a dent in the steel. But they should go throught bones you say.

Ass Clown, All of todays solids are more than capable of completely penitrating an elephants head...and any of them will penitrate a Buffalo length wise, so what difference does a tungston make other than price....with the exception of the 458 wherein the Speer Tungston is the best route due to is shorter length that allows more space for powder... Certainly, the tungston it is a good bullet, no doubt about that, but is it that much better?, I don't think so, but thats just opinion on my part... I like the GS Customs and Bridger Flat Nose monolithic solids better than anything I have used todate, they kill better than anything else by a long shot and they have more penitration than I have ever needed...Again just opinnion.

ASS_CLOWN, I have TUNGTEN CORE SOLID 300gr for my 375 H&H but it couldn't put a dent in the steel either going 2620FPS at close range [50yds]
