My good friend and gunsmith Todd Johnson has a rifle he built featured in the 2nd edition of Dangerous Game Rifles by Terry Wieland. I thought I'd share a photo from the book with you guys. Todd built the rifle for Terry.

I gotta say I'm right proud of the boy!!!! He done good! Smiler

I got a chance to handle this rifle at Danny's booth at the DSC. I spent Tues-Sun hanging with Todd, the Wells boys and Danny. The rifle is beautiful and Todd is a great guy. We watched the Alabama/Texas game at the hotel bar and all I could do was smile--A "Roll Tide" in Texas would have been a hangin' offense that evening. The Wells, Danny and I are headed to Moz for buff this August and I think Danny is taking the .505 he made for Terry. Wish Todd was going with us.

That's a beauty. Todd is really coming along as a custom riflemaker. He re-did an FN Deluxe for me. Tell him hello!

Beautiful rifle!

Anymore pictures available? I'd particulary like to see some showing the whole rifle.

Bob, do you know, did Mr. Wieland pay to have the rifle built or did he have the work done in return for publicity? The reason I ask is that in connection with some of his views on double rifles his bona fides are in question.

Have no idea, but I don't think Danny needs any publicity.

Danny Pedersen is a barrel maker in Prescott, AZ. He did the metal work and Bob Sweda did the wood. Danny apprenticed under Fred Wells years ago. The action is one of Fred's magnum square bridge beauties, no CNC, all hand feed.

I guess the question would still be, did Wieland pay for the work or was the work comp'ed? Just curious.

MJines, are we talking about the .375 or the .505? Pedersen did the .505 and I do not know about the compensation. As an aside, based on the time I spent with him at Dallas, I found Terry Wieland to be a pleasant enough gentleman.

There you go. Nothing against BFaucett or Mr. Johnson but it points out the suspicious credibility of those that think they know it all.

Of course, I do not fall into that category!

Gun writer and pXXX for whoever is buying, the gun owner has a large European optic with a grossly long eyepiece that, sooner or later, in actual hunting situations rather than in the range report fluff, will get smacked bad by that scope.

Now, who is credible? Pretty pictures does not make a DGR expert, eh?

Will and Mike. Maybe just maybe the scope is just sitting on there for the pics and not setup by the shooter? I can't believe the nitpicking that goes on sometimes. Making statements based on a pic without knowing any other details is well?

Nice looking rifle and nice scope also!!

I haven't said a word about the scope . . . frankly could care less. I just asked if Wieland paid for the rifle or got it gratis.

MJines - Wasn't referring to you at all, sorry if you thought that was the case. It was Mikelravy that made the scope comment about being too far back.

Not a big deal I guess, but it just seems some folks never have anything good to say about stuff on here. Can't see how "scope placement" on a very beautiful rifle comes under scrutiny by some? Maybe the guy likes it that way? His rifle, his scope, so he can mount it upside down if he wants as far as I care.

Beautiful and I couldn't give a stuff who paid or who didn't or whether the scope is mounted too far back .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.
