If you reload and like to play- .458 is the way to go. Great with cast bullets, good with 300grn bullets intended for 45-70...and can be loaded up if you need to.

If you are not a major reloader then .375. factory ammo is available for everything from long range deer sniping to elephant. comes at a price...

I've just ordered a .458WM Zastava. Add 1x laminated stock, cross bolts x2, and kick-eze recoil pad x1, ghost rear sight and I'm ready.

Why a 458 over a .375H&H ? Because I already have a 9.3x62.

It would appear fate has stepped in again. Just picked up another Charles Daly Mauser action NIB off of GA in guess what…..458 Win Mag for $750. Not sure if I am living right or not. killpc

Thanks for all the advice and recommendations. In the end, I guess I’ve decided to get both (+1 unplanned) and try them both out for a while. Don’t think I’ll be taking either one to Nambia this Sep as I won’t have time to get comfortable (fully comfortable) with either one by then. Will be traveling a lot this summer so....If all goes well, things will slow down for me by the end of July and that will only give me 30 or so days to get my head and stuff together.

Will spend a year playing with both and the winner will have a perm home and I'll sell the other - who the hell am I kidding right?

Side note to self – don’t forget to submit retirement paperwork this week. 30 Sep completes 28-years, 1 Oct completes my TIG requirement, and 9 Oct I turn 50. patriot I am just too f’n old and slow to keep up with the new kids anymore. But then maybe it is kind of like the “Young Bull – Old Bull” joke. Cool

Note that the performance of this loading exceeds all .458 Lott factory stuff.

I do not understand how can take the 458 caliber Winchester Magnum more powerful than 458 Lott, as it is its shorter length sheath, and consequently fewer harboring gunpowder Confused .

oscar.

Oscar I agree wholeheartedly with you. It reads like the numbers are switched between the two loads. Greater velocity/ energy from a substantially smaller case is counter-intuitive. Why down-load a cartridge with superior ballistics to be less than it's poor cousin? It makes no sense!

Semper fi , namibiahunter!

I think my research has paid off by acquiring the two rifles in my sig line below that will do for any dry-land animal on Earth.

Hi I have found the Spanish version of the catalog of Impala bullets and the data are correct. Increased speed and power for 458 Lott both bullet weights, of course. I put the link to display correctly.
