New CZ 375

RattlesnakerNew CZ 375
I recently purchased a new CZ 375 as my entry into the world of large bore rifles. Prior to this I had never shot anything larger than a 300 win mag. I took it out to the range yesterday and shot about 20 rounds through it open sight at 100 yards. Man that thing is fun. I found the recoil to be very mild with 300 gr bullets. The action was a little rough and I'll have to get that worked on. I have a big 4 day hog hunt scheduled in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to try the 375 out on one. This site has me hooked on the large caliber rifles and I'm already looking for my move up.

WhitworthCongratulations Rattlesnaker! You'll not only find the big bores addicting (just ask anyone on this site), you'll find that your .375 is good hog medicine. Keep us posted.

458RugerNo1The .375 H&H is a very pleasant rifle to shoot if of the proper weight. I've never been sore or bruised by it in any way and can bench it all day long. I can't say that for a .338 Win I had!

Hog KillerRattlesnaker,
Welcome to your journy into the lager bore sizes. Glad to here that you think the 375 H&H is fun to shoot. It is a nice medium bore round. After you get really familiar with it, then you should go ahead a step up to the 458 Lott, a true big bore and also a lot of fun to shoot.

Have fun,

Hog Killer

The CZ550 Magnum in 375H&H is a HEAVY rifle, hence it is comfortable to shoot. I love mine as well. Wouldn't call it "fast handling" however! (Whatever that means)

Rattlesnaker,
Congrats on the new rifle. The CZ 375 is a good choice and an easy shooting rifle. It is a bit rough, but a good smith can get it working smoothly. The 375 H&H is one of my favorite rounds as it does so many things well, with little fuss. Dial it in, shoot the heck out of it and when (not if!) you want to move up the 458 Lott is a great "next" round as Hog Killer suggested.
I love the bigger bores (maybe infatuated with them?) but when it comes to an all around, easy to shoot rifle the 375 comes out ahead.

RattlesnakerI could use some recommendations on gunsmiths in the DFW area if anyone has any as I haven't lived here long enough to know of one.
Not sure about taking the next step all the way up to the 458 Lott. Everything that I've read on here is that it will kick the snot out of you. Any additional thoughts on that?

jeffeossothe lott won't kick you too bad. in fact, it's just a good step from the 375, once you get used to it. In fact, 405s at 2000 fps is pleasant, and you can work up from there.

I'm sure that Ray's Hardware has one or more that they use if you want something simple done, although I have not used them. I recently had some work done at Williamson Precision Gunsmithing in Hurst on the recommendation of MacD37/Dugaboy. They won't get it done quickly as they have a backlog, but they had my rifle ready when they promised, I did not have to call to remind them about it, they charged me an amount within the range estimated, and it looks like they did a good job. I hope to finally get to shoot the rifle tomorrow.

RattlesnakerWhat kind of work did they do for you and how long did it take?

I had them cut down the stock to my length of pull and add a new Pachmayr pad. They also remounted the scope I had buggered up, replacing some screws for me in the process, and added a comb pad as I cannot do Ray Atkinson's trick of just lifting my head a little to see the scope. The checked the bedding while it was in and also filled in the mortise where the receiver site had been with wood that matched pretty closely.
None of the work was really complicated but I felt better useing someone I had a recommendation for, and I have some other projects I might use them for in the future which might be more involved.
My rifle was there for a little over three months as they do a lot of custom work and I had to wait my turn. However, I would rather have it done right and take a while than get it fast but wrong.

hacksawtomI've got a LUX .375 and wouldn't trade it for anyother rifle. Super accurate and like all factory rifles, it will smooth up considerably after a couple of hundred rounds. Congrats, but don't think you'll stop there, you're hooked!

BlackHawk1Welcome to the club. I have CZ Safari Magnum (hogback stock) in .375 also. Fine rifle once you work the action a bit. I agree, the recoil isn't bad at all. Enjoy it!
