Nice looking rifle.

Dont spend any time at the bench without a sissy bag behind the buttstock. And get off the bench as quick as you can.

Shoot offhand and get yourself a set of shooting sticks.

After all, that is how they were meant to be shot!

Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

Greg, welcome to AR and good advise above. Big bores are really best shot off-hand. A Lead Sled with just one 25 lb weight takes the edge off a big bore, but still allows the rifle to move. Use that or a cushion or pad on the buttstock to sight in and develop a good load. After that, shoot off sticks, as that's what you'll be doing in Africa.

Naw, no bench shooting for me for now at least. Most of my time behind my 375 is offhand, and I'm pretty lethal with it.

The 416 rem. mag is the second most popular big bore in Zimbabwe, behind of course the queen 375 H&H.

The .416 and 404 have been my big bore bolt guns for quite a number of years, hard to beat and all you will ever need even in Africa. Some tell me its not a stopper but its always stopped everything I shot with it! A stopper just holds water in your 1866 tub! Wink

I don't shoot well off sticks, never have, but I have always been an exceptional off hand shooter, guess because I learned to shoot from the start off hand. I will say this, as Ive aged, my off hand shooting has suffered with the havier 9.5 to 12 lb. rifles, so I am working with a mono trigger stick, trying to improve my bad stick shooting..

I have the same rifle and really like it. I did bed the stock and relieve the tang to keep it from chipping. Barrels differ but mine shoots speer 350 and barnes 350 ttsx bullets very well. You can run them around 2600 fps and recoil is very manageable. RL15 and Varget will get you there. The Varget has better velocity variations but both have been accurate.
