For probably the millionth time over the years, what is current price and availability of boxer-primed 10.75x68 brass? Anyone know? How about berdan primed stuff...any of that floating around new in NA?

Just got a reamer for it (probably from someone on this forum) and would rather not start having to neck up 8x68 brass if I don't have to....

Anyone selling RWS brass "should" be able to supply 10.75x68mm brass.

I'm pretty sure that this particular brass is formed from another case.

This is what the Buffalo Arms site has to say about their brass:

I bought all my 10.57x68 brass from Huntingtons and it was reasonalbe enough by comparison to other big bore brass...A really nice caliber the 10.75x68 and it has a good magazine capacity..I built a couple of them, bought one in a Hoffman, hunted buffalo with one a couple of times and sold them all, as usual.

But Canuck, cases can not be made from 8x68S!!
The 10,75x68 is a smaller diameter case, and unique. No other cartridges are made on that case size.

Bent- I realize the case head has to be sized down to about .4989" or a tad larger to fit in the chamber (CIP says .4949" CASE max), but many (most?) chambers are bigger. Then the case has to be expanded at the front both for the bullet and the shoulder. With the expansion of the neck it may come out a red hair shorter than the full 68 m/m nominal length dimension, but not enough to hurt anything at all. With a strong press and a couple of home-made base-sizing dies (threaded & bored 1" long "washers"), that base-sizing is not very difficult.

I have done it before, and if the brass hasn't substantially changed in the last 40 years, figure I can try it again.

(Recommended method by some case-forming books is to turn the belt off of .375 H&H brass and then size THAT head down from the SAAMI max of .5130" to fit the chamber.

The 8x68 case head CIP max diameter is .512", so it is actually .001" smaller than the .375 head already....And we are only talking a reduction of somewhere around .013".)


In fact, as I have more .375 H&H brass laying around here than 8x68-S cases, first I'll probably just chuck some of that in the lathe, turn the belt off, expand, full length size, then fire-form. If that works out O.K., I won't need to buy any more at all.

Yeh, so you just HAD to do it back to us by showing that pic. I used to have a pair which looked very much like that except they had very tastefully done (for the era) cast sterling silver forend tips. I also sold them both in a a fit of lunacy. Damn!!! (Oh, and mine both had single triggers and no claw mount bases. I didn't want scopes on my rifles, and won't have double-set riggers on a big game rifle.)

OK. My DWM brass meassures 0.4925 at the rim and 0.4895 on head.
I know it is doable the way you describe it, it just sounds as a pain to me! I have also heard of new tubings on reduced 8x68S caseheads. Yea, the first 3 are fun to make.... Original brass is not that hard to come by...! But if you have time and opportunity and takes pleassure in it, by all means!

I have to agree about the double-set triggers. I'm a simple-minded, superstitious fellow who believes that if you have a trigger, then it should make the gun go bang somehow. During the Moment of Truth I might stupidly have my finger on the wrong trigger!

About the nice 10.75 rifle I showed, that's okay because Bent is going to get very successful with his .425 Fossdal and buy one for each of his good friends here at AR.
