Have owned one of each in the caliber mentioned. Still own the CZ and will always own it as my heavy. Do not like much about the RSM. I slimmed down the stock, replaced the bolt handle with a longer straight one and fully glassed it. I would have modified the safety which I find to be VERY unhandy but could not figure out what to do with it. Did not like the very heavy barrel and think the quarter rib to be pooly designed and executed. Just looks cheap. You probably gather by now I don't like the RSM. I took the CZ and replaced the hogback stock with a Brockman Laminate which I fully glassed. This was long before the American style stock was available. If it had been available I would have kept it. Cut the barrel to 21" and that was it for the CZ. I DID straighten the small crook in the bolt handle. The accuracy of both rifles was and is impeccable. Incidentally i also dislike the shape of the RSM's trigger guard but could not figure how to replace it with the old style.I suppose the RSM COULD me made into a pleasing rifle but not without major work that I was not willing to invest. I think I disliked the safety and barrel/rib most and could not figure what to do to them to make them satisfactory to me. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

I'll change my vote. Even though I'd like a 404 Jeffery I'd lean towards the RSM. I just got my 500 Jeffery conversion back and it ROCKS! As you can see I have 3 RSM's and no CZ's. I have yet to have any problems with them, they shoot great and I really like them. Even more now that the 500 is back. If I had to pick one I'd keep my 500. If I had to shoot big things all day long I'd take the 458 Lott. If I need to make a long shot 300 yards the 416 Rigby could do it just fine. I'm very happy. Since I'm not able to buy a $40,000 custom british gun I'll smile with my inexpensive rugers. Brad

Zim:With all the Ruger negatives (virtually every part of a ruger rifle) why in the world would you even purchase one? I have found the Ruger to be a quality firearm with great factory support, while the CZ is quite inferior on all counts(seems like junk IMO) Dr.C At Home on the Range-Texas Panhandle

I don't think you will find I said anything about the Ruger being of anything but the highest quality. I thought I would convert it but it proved to be more work than I desired and I never could figure what to do to the safety or the quarter rib as they both annoyed me, so I sold it. A rifle is a very personal investment and every one has to make their own decision on what they like or dislike. Few are ACTUALLY better than others although most here will probably disagree with that statement also. I only know what I like and would never pretend to tell anyone else what they should like.
