Is it possible to rebarrel a ruger #1 to 500 a-square? If
so can anyone recommend a good gunsmith to do the work.

Shouldn't be a problem. If you are rebarreling a #1, you aren't very limited on calibers that you can use. Reboring is another story, but that isn't an issue with you. You might be best to get someone who somewhat specializes in #1's. Bowen does the NE conversions, so they might be able to help. Also, SSK does quite a few, and Broad Creek Rifle Works.

The short answer is YES.

The "easiest" way to achieve your stated goal is:

1.) Buy a Ruger No 1 in 416 Rigby. ($500 - $700)
2.) Buy a prefitted barrel chambered for 500 A Square from PacNor. Duplicate the factory Ruger 416 Rigby barrel profile.($320 if memory serves)
3.) Remove 0.416 barrel from Ruger No1 and fit PacNor prefitted 500 A Square barrel to Ruger No1.

If you do step 3 above yourself it should take no longer than 30 minutes. If you have a gunsmith do it, time is a BIG question, and cost should be less than $100.

That is it! Nothing more needs to be done. Make sure that the have PacNor DUPLICATE the factory Ruger No1 barrel profile! This is an important "make sure" and they will charge you $40 more for it, again if memory serves.

Good luck.

Yeah, like you've done it so many times in your dreams, Ass Clown. Why don't you start your own website. "ASK SCOTT SWEET." Then everyone can come to you with all their problems in life from firearms to chimney fires to pesky weeks.

Actually Pecos only did it once! It really is as straight-forward and easy a conversion as they come. It is just about the cheapest way to a 500 A Square one can do.

Oh, yeah! I remember now, Scott. You even posted pictures of it. I'll bet you are proud of that one. It's one of the few guns you didn't have to steal a photo of from the internet.

But I think the rifle everyone else here is talking about shoots bullets...not water like yours.
