| Look at my web site below, scroll down to the bottom of the first page, and click on "Rifles", where you will find a 458 Lott on a M70. Has a No. 6 barrel, 22 inches long, weighs 9-1/2 pounds. A rifle in 404, with a 24 inch No. 5 barrel, will have a similar weight, maybe a few ounces lighter, depending on stock weight and accessories. |

| It's a dedicated iron sight rifle, no scope intended. Non adjustable aperature sight machined to the specs of the owner, and sighted dead on at 50 yards. This rifle is used as a back up or "Stopping" rifle. Your 404 with a 24 inch No. 5 would be very close to 9-1/4 to 9-1/2 pounds without scope. The 458 Lott in the photos is balanced well, goes up to the shoulder and points naturally and handles the recoil exceptionally. Note that the stock has proper cast off, drop and pitch of the butt specifically for a fast handling iron sighted rifle (This stock is somewhat useless for a scoped rifle). A 404 built this way would be mild on recoil. |

| However, If I were building a M70 404 for myself, it would wear a No. 6 barrel. |

| John,
In Australia, what we call a Number 5 is about .72" at 26 inches which is also about like the barrel Wby fits to their 416.
What muzzle diamter is a Number 6.
