I can't imagine those barrels having any application in a big-bore rifle.

Other than that, their price and looks are a big impediment.

The carbon wrapped barrels are ugly, so unless you are making a black gun (sniper weapon), the result will not be desirable.

To each his own but the only use I have for one is on my little Ruger 10/22 rabbit gun. I suppose the rapid heat dissipation would aid a varmint rifle but the light weight is a negative when holding in the rests.

And GeorgeS is right about the looks...they just look WRONG.

That is indeed what I will be making. Weight, rigidity, and heat dispersion are all factors. The only REAL downside to these barrels from what I've research over the last day or two is that if you happen to knock the barrel against an edged/cornered surface to hard, it will penetrate the casing and require immediate attention .

George S., you are correct only in that the prices are enough to choke on . As far as looks are concerned, well that's a personal thing, and I like the looks.

Thanks for the input guy's, I really appreciate it!

Larry,
lemme get this right... you want a LIGHT barrel on a big bore? What SIZE big bore? a 376 steyr it MIGHT work... but kimmeny christmas, a 1# barrel on a 500 jeffery would rip your shoulder off, tear an artery, and flip fly into the next county.

are these accurate? I shot a christenson (-sen?) 300 win awhile back... a buddy was trying to sell it to me... we went through a box of shells (i provided) one morning with him

accurate? HELL yeah

kick the ever loving snot out of me ... HELL yeah...

when I declined to buy it (i was freaking BRUISED .. from a 300 WIN) he fessed up and told me I had shot it more that morning than he had in teh year or so he had had it... it jsut kicked him too hard...

and this from a buddy that shoots a 10 ga for geese

Umm, what type of Muzzle Brake did he have on it, if any? So do you think if would still kick as hard if he had a MB tht dumped 70% of the felt recoil?

The rifle will be chambered in the .700 H.E. or the 12 GFH. My target rifle weight will be 24-26 lbs. A 2-1/4" diameter 32" long, carbon wrapped barrel (with a Lilja insert) and a Vais hi-effciency (re: 70% recoil reduction) M.B. It will be wearing a Big Mac stock from McMillan and the optics will be from Nightforce.

According two very knowledgeable people on this board the rifle mentioned above should be very manageable...don't you all agree?

That weight... sure.. but why make it where you have to ADD a kajillion oz of lead to it, (which can risk a stock) rather than a "proper" barrel?

to each his own, i reckon.. sounds like a fun gun, anyway you cut it
