....It is truley amazing what you can find to do.

 -

The only hard part, kinda, was making the bullet mold. Any guesses?

The bullet is approx .670 and unknown weight. The case is a 50bmg cut to 2.90 and col is 3.475.

Just in case anyone is wondering, this is just for fun.

Regards,
JAG

Too bad I don't have a digital camera, or the dummy any more for that matter.

Anyhow, I made up a a dummy of a 75 acp. It was a cut down 50 bmg case based on a scaled up 45 acp, and the aluminum bullet turned from solid .75" dia rod.

I have a .38 special case annealed within an inch of its life that's holding a .475 420 gr. bullet. Case capacity is a little short you might say. It looks like a mouse trying to swallow a rat.

It was just a fun way to pass time and take my mind off of things.

FYI, for the mold I cut the base of a BMG case about 2" up. Cut it length wise after removing the primer and walla! Ad vise grips to hold it to gether and a punch in the flash hole, add lead and there you have it!

Believe it or not, JAG, that cartridge holds some promise, for a large single shot, or bolt rifle! Very interesting!!!!!!!!!!!! [Cool]

That is shorter version of my 700HE straight
belted case, that is 3.85 inches long.,It is like the 700 DKT straight 'belted' case that is 3 in long. You need a means to headspace your case.Ed.

HUBEL458, you are absolutely right about it needing a belt, but it could be headspaced on the case mouth, as the 45 acp is. Like you, however, I'd rather have a belt! A very narrow belt could be turned into the web area of the BMG case without compromiseing the strength of the case, considering this would, most likely, be a fairly low pressure cartridge! [Confused]

Mac - we can't crimp that sucker and headspace on the case mouth. [Big Grin] O.K., as is, for a single shot ...

Mac-Nickudu-A belt is best.AND the cases I have designed and am making are high pressure, as the BMG brass has a real thick base and the belt is down on the strong web area of the
base.It will take more pressure than a Weatherby,
Lazzoroni,WSM,RUM,or any others.Headspacing on the mouth with cases this big, that will lenghthen
in firing means a major headache and precise trimming every reload. My brass can be shortened
and reworked to any length and bore.

Jag-if you decide to build something for this
we can help get brass belted.Ed.

Well, the thought of chasing after this ctg is exciting, its just not in my cards right now. I am trying to make the transition to my first, but not last, double. Right now its just more then I can chew.

But, I think that if I did, I would go the single shot route, thus staying away from pricey brass. Anyway thanks for the offer Ed, and thanks for all of the replies...

MAC, mailed ya.

JAG

Thanks Jag- If you or anyone wants to try a
belted case 2.9 inches long in a .670 cal or
thereabouts, I will make them. They are strong and with regular loads(not low pressure even),will reload at least 30 times. They would be couple bucks less than my long ones.I already made one
to see how it looks.Ed.

.Ed.

There is no doubt, it would take the pressure, of the cartridges mentioned above, but do you think the shooter could stand this thing shot at high pressure? With a round like this, one has no need for high pressure, or any speed over 1900 fps, to do the job on an animal the size of Cape Buffalo. Even at 1900 fps, this would lay you flat, unless you build the rifle on a cannon carrage! WHAT YA'LL THANK??????? [Roll Eyes]

Mac- Cartridges like that kick a little, and if you don't weight rifle properly it will set you back. The benefit of the case design being strong and super safe is you get
a couple boxes and you can reload and shoot for years at the 1900 to 2100 fps(600 NE and 700 NE speeds). That length and belted design will work from .670 to .700 cal.My long one is being made into .700cal(700HE) and .729(12 GA from Hell).
Keeps me out of trouble als-- doing this...Ed.
