JBoutfishnPlinking Load for the 444 Marlin
Looking for a light plinking load for the 444 Marlin used in a Model 94 "Big Bore". Any problem
using the Hornady 200 gr Hollow Point? Does 4198 have a problem when loading down?

MacD37JBoutfishn, All 444 Marlin loads are plinkers!

couldn't resist! Sorry!
The 240 gr Speer pistol bullet can be pushed as low as 2036 FPS with 55.0 grs of IMR4320, or 2039 FPS with 53.0 grs of N201. These are MINIMUM LOADS with those powders, and all other powders get higher velocities with the minimum loads. The lowest velocity I can find with IMR 4198 is a load of 42.0 grs of it for a minimum velocity of 2121 fps. All these loads are from a Marlin with a 24" barrel, and are from the Speer load book No 10.
Enjoy!

JBoutfishnThanks Mac, after a morning of "plinking" with the 416 and 470, I just wanted to shoot over open sights with getting beat up.
