I've found they can't be driven fast enough to offset the B.C. of the 270 grain X bullets and when one trys, there is no discernable reduction in recoil but there is in regard to lethality on the larger, tougher animals. I've used the 210 X at a pleasant shooting 2,900fps on the lighter species but otherwise the 270 X at 2,800fps is tops in my book.

How is the accuracy like with the 270 X ? I own a old pre64 and would like to try using the barnes or swift 270 grn.
I am using Woodleigh 235 grn soft nose PP at 880 m/sec but the accuracy is not so good as with the Sierra Game king 300 grn.
I would like fast and accurate.

Cheers,

Andr

While many here have expressed having accuracy problems with "X" bullets, I have not. I have four 270 "X" loads, with four different powders, that give from 2,745 to 2,850 fps and .400" to .750" groups from my 26" Browning. These are hunting loads. I don't shoot well enough these days to do justice to some of the accuracy loads.

I will give the Barnes X 270 grn a chance and se how they perform in my barrel. I am looking for good hunting accuracy not bench accuracy.
Thank you.

Cheers,

I have used the 235 Barnes x for whitetails. Not much bigger. It worked very nicely. It shoots well in mine and my son's 375 H&H. I think our load is using 4064 IMR if memory serves. I load it to about 2850. That is about all I can get out of my 21 inch barrel. In you guys opinion, would this be enough for cow elk? Good hunting. "D"

May I add a question in reference to light bullet loads for the .375?

I am getting ready to load 250 gr. North Forks in my .375 H&H for Leopard. I am having difficulty finding loads for this bullet weight. Plenty on the 235 and 270 gr.

I have some info, but am looking for some more ideas and results.

Thanks,

Sam

I am sure the 235 gr, monolithic is suitable for elk, even for bulls..I suspect it will in fact our penitrate most 270 gr. bullets of standard design...
