Redding is now offering 458 Lott dies as a standard die set (series D). You can order them from Redding or distributors. I know tthat Lock, Stock and Barrel have two sets. They did have three but I bought one of them.

LSB is offering them for $56.50 (if I remember correctly). Direct from Redding they're $97.50.

LSB phone number is +1-800-228-7925. Redding is +1-607-753-3331.

They've GOT to be better than the one that Hornady offer...

Thought that some of you might be interested.

Take Care,

-Steve

My Hornady 458 Lott dies couldn't load ammo. The expander must have been from another die set because there was no way to not vastly overbell the mouth with them, I mean with 1/2 thread in a Rock-Chucker press it belled the case 1/8" too wide all the way around the bullet. Fortunately I have a set of Redding 45/90 dies and use them to bell the case mouths..........DJ

I have the same problem with them in my Rockchucker. I had a buddy build up an extention that set the die up higher in the press. That solved most of the problems.

Then on Saturday Iwas trying to seat some Woodleigh 500 gn solids and could barely get it to work as again the die was too 'short'. When trying to crimp, I had to adjust the seater plug to it's maximum. I was proabably only catching a half a thread. That was with the extender.

Like I said, the Redding's can't be much worse.

The neck expander for the Hornady dies must be designed for the 45-70, as there is no way to properly set them for full ram stroke, so you have to guess where to stop each time you bell a case.

Other then that they seem to work ok.

I wonder how much difference there is in Rock Chucker presses. I am loading 458 Lott on a late 60's Rock Chucker with Hornady dies, everything works OK. I only have about three threads holding the expander die in place but I get nice looking ammo.
