Looks like very good performance. That must have been from quite a few bullets fired because my rate of bullet recovery has been low with those bullets.

How fast were the 130 grainers moving? What was your feel for how deep they penetrated and how dmagaing it looked like they were on the vitals?

BTW-I have used the original X's and the TSX's but not in the past few years/ Had 2 stay in deer, both 130 gr TSX .270's. Found one and it looked just like th e2 .30's you show. The other time I had one stay in a deer it was not immediately findable and I wnated to get back to hunting, so I just dumped all of the guts out and went back to hunting.

Thanks for posting the pics1

I used the 458 cal 500gr TSX from a lott on a neck shot on a kudu and a upclose finishing shot on a buff.I also shot a log of dead soft wood in camp with one. From what I saw,it does not have the penetration I thought it would have from this caliber. After shooting these bullets in frozen sand banks and dirt mounds and not getting much expansion,I thought they would act like solids and penetrate alot on game.It did penetrate and pass through the neck of the kudu but showed little penetration on buff and to my surprise, did not penetrate the log.I think my 270win and a failsafe would penetrate more-I've shot them through logs before. The 500gr TSX really expands in game ,unlike a sand pile and becomes really big in a 458 diameter bullet.Once it becomes very large up front, there is little weight in the rear to push through and the energy required is just not there.I would trust a swift-a frame more instead.

All the bullets were recovered just under the hide on the opposite side of entry. I have found that the old version of the x bullet is much harder then the TSX. The old x bullet had several pass throughs. The new TSX is much softer then the old version. I have turned both bullets on my lathe and they are like night and day when it comes to hardness of material. Ross

That's good to know, thanks! After that log experiment I have doubts about using them on lion. The Makuti camp manager,Blake was with me when we did the test.He seemed also dissapointed in their performance.

I'm glad if they're softer, having shot my 570g TSX at 2300 fps from 15 yards through a lined up water jug, TV, cement block into a clay bank it exploded the water jug (showing good expansion) severely wounded the old TV, disintegrated the cement block and penetrated 2 feet into the clay bank but lost it's petals and bent slightly. I'm pretty damn happy with both the expansion and penetration. By the way I got wet lol

Ross10,
I find it pretty darned interesting that the bullets you posted, from the guns you listed, all ended up at the same spot looking nearly identical. How do you get better bullet performance than that?? I posted a link in NA hunting but I guess others did not find it as interesting as I did. I assume all the Bison Died by the way with heart lung shots...
Thanks for the photo and info by the way.

I was surprised when I found the 416 bullets. I expected them to exit. I was also surprised the 338 bullet did not exit but it did just like the rest of the bullets other then it lost 3 petals. These bullets seem to be just like the Nosler partition they expand and they are just under the hide on the far side. Next year I am going to shoot one with my Lott and a 500 grain TSX. I may also shoot one with a 470 Capstick. Ross

I'll bet the 130s in a 30BR weren't running over 2850.

The 30BR and the 416 were SS pistols
