I would like to have more info on this cartridge. I know that MacD37 has a rifle in this caliber. I have looked in Cartridges of the World and there is no info there. Where do you get the reloading dies, or can you use 45-70 or 458 win mag. Where do you find loading data?

Thanks

DPM, On page 635 of The Handloader"s Manual Of Cartridge Conversions By John J. Donnelly you will find cartridge dimentions, and dirrections for makeing the cartridge! There is also an article, by Ken Waters, on page 26 of the July/Aug 1975 issue No56, of Handloader Magazine. This article has a lot of load data for this round. All loads worked up by the origenator of this cartridge, done by Fred Huntington, of HDS, and the origenal owner of RCBS!
I have this copy of Reloader mag, but have no way to scann it to you. The load I use in mine, most often, is:

Case is 45 basic (HDS), shortened to 2.75"

400 gr bullet

68 grs IMR4064

2035 FPS out of 24" barrels

Standard large rifle primer!

The cartridge can be loaded with a 45-70 die, and shell holder, and also with a 458 Win mag die, and the 45-70 holder. Dies are available from HDS, but there is a long wait, and they are not cheap. C-H might be willing to make you a set sooner, and cheaper, but they can be loaded on the 45-70, or 458 WM, just not full ength sized.
Hope any of this helps!

DPM,
Wasn't sure frm your last post whether you were referring to the 458 RCBS or 45-110???

...But, if you are in need of a 45-110 reamer, I got a list yeasterday from dave Manson for their "Writer's Tools" list (discounted items back from gunswriter's) and there is a 45-110 removeable piloted reamer on there for $75. This is listed as ".481/.480 tight neck". Ought to make for a nice shooter.

Give them a call at 810-953-0732 if interested.

This seems like a long way around the barn to get performance available over-the-counter in a 450 Marlin.

Thanks for the tip, but my smith has that reamer. I hope to drop the gun off on monday and hope that it does not have to be re-regulated.

Thanks
