I have good news for all .404 shooters. Yesterday we got the new RUAG catalogue (formaly Dynamit Nobel) and they reintroducing two .404 Jeffery loads, a 400grs SP and a 400grs FMJ. The price for one 20 round box is about 95.- € in germany.
Also they will reintroduce a load in 6,5x54 Mann. Schonauer, the 20 round box coasts 67.- €.
The RUAG company takes over the gerneral agency for the austrian Hirtenberg ammunition and you can get the Norma ammuniton direct by RUAG (dealers only).
Unfortunately the new catalogue has new prices, + 4-5% we must pay for the ammuniton.

They must obviously think there is a market there. For those of you who want some of this ammo, stock up ASAP. You never know, it might get discontinued tomorrow. As long as it is available, power to RUAG for making it!

Norma, RWS and Hirtenberger is a part of the RUAG company nowadays. The Hirtenberger factory is closed down. Norma has bought all Hirtenbergs machines -saw thenm at Norma at my last visit in February.

CZ is now making a 404 Jefferys for one, and I have a hunch that others will follow, or all these folks would not be gearing up with ammo and brass....especially Federal.

I don't think that Norma makes the RWS ammo. It seems to me like there are a healthy competition between the companies..

Forgot to mention that Norma also makes most of the brand GECO brass. GECO is RUAG.s low priced brand -but in order to get the cases look cheaper than the Norma brass, the GECO brass requires one more step in the manufacturing and cost more to make than the Norma brass -makes sence???

I am for the moment occupied with the idea of having double rifle chambered for the 9,3x65R BRENNECKE -the rimmed version of the 9,3x64. I got one 9,3x65R cartridge from a friend and i can't stop looking at it

Well, 9,3X65R is also something every household needs matches well with a 9,3X64 mauser

I have used Geco and it's been very good and cheap Can't really understand RUAG/Norma logic's

Am I? Brenneke developed two rounds with "similar" performance, 9,3X64 and 9,3X65R.

Would be great to have one of each, a drilling in 9,3X65R and a mauser in 9,3X64?

Do any of you have any indication from the factories about how much .404 Jeff ammo they will build?

For example KYNAMCO sells about 5,000 rounds a year, and they report this is a steady demand.

Am new to this board. Where can one get the RWS 404 ammo from? Just bought an original Type A Mauser in 404 Jeff. Would appreciate any advise on whether this gun would shoot well with the orig load or the newer load at 2300+ FPS

RWS, Federal and Kynoch markets 404 ammo, check with your country/local sales representative.

I would love to see some pictures of your model A. Built on a magnum or standard action? A magnum mauser in good condition is an attractive object with a high price.

How your rifle will shoot is hard to tell.

One would expect your sights to be set for the original load, 400 grainer at 2150 fps.

I don't want you shooting the hot loads in it, just in case the wood has weakened with age.

Don't crack that stock.

I'll top any offer Ray makes if you want to get rid of it, unless this is a money making scheme between you two . And just for edification purposes of Mauser Enthusiasts (ME!), what is the dollar "book value" of that rifle? Hope you got a good deal on it. You are a fortunate man to have such a treasure.

My old Blue Book said the single square bridge gets a 50% premium over the standard Mauser 98 Type A.

A double square bridge gets 100% or double the price of the standard Type A.
