Has anyone got any experience with the Thompson Center Encore using a 375 JDJ barrel? Of particular interest is recoil, as this rifle will be used by someone who has no recoil issue with a 308 Win, but isn't used to heavy recoil cartridges. Also effectiveness on large game ie buffalo, bison, elk, and bears. Thanks!

A very good friend of mine has that exact rig. We went to SA 3 years ago and he shot all types of plains game with it. He has also shot bison and elk with it and is taking it for bears this spring. I have shot it and the recoil is not bad. The barrel is also ported which helps a bit. I know it is a tack driver and he loves it. The danger of civilization, of course, is that you will piss away your life on nonsense

I have a Contender 375 jdj It does not kick bad at all.Its in the 23" barrel.I usually shoot 200-300 gr bullets.I like the 235 gr speer and the 270 gr Hornady. You need softer bullets for this caliber or they will not expand at all.I like the 270 gr Hornady best but the 235 gr speer is more accurate.Mine weighs 5 pounds almost .I like it but I have a 375 Winchester in a Model 94 that is right on its heals and is a 7 shooter.I wish I had found more 444 brass before it jumped up so high.
