458ar makes meat
40 yards, 80gr IMR4895, 405gr remys, peep sights. I wanted a strait on chest shot but you can see the results below (deer on far left). She either turned or I made a poor shot. The leg was only held on by a few pieces of skin. I blew meat all over the bushes. The bullet must of exploded, i couldn't find any sign of it. She ran about 5 yards and expired. I'll try again with solids next time, looking for a bullet recovery. I knew those 405 were out of their comfort zone but not that far.

Shes hanging on the far left.

Wow that's some damage.

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

Ah ... you used the .458 AR as a grenade launcher, eh? 405 Remys not good when driven too fast!

Have 435 Rhinos loaded at 2350 ... but have not found a target for them yet Wink Also looking for something to shoot with the .416 Aagard pushing a 350 Speer Magtip at 2300.

Dang Peyton, that was CLOSE with the remmies... i told you they would detonate!!

The STC Hunting Club went out last week. Neal and I had 458 ARs

Neal using his 458 AR with 320gr hex-hollow custom copper bullets at 2300

me? I took a tiny axis with mine, woodleigh 400grs at 2500...

I mean, with 1:14 twist, I was worried that they would bounce off

I'll have to resize the pics, way too big

opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club

405 Remington's will come uncorked at 1900FPS MV on a hog out of a .45-70. They are a really soft bullet.

On the advice of some on this forum and in old magazines I read I loaded 405s in my 45/70 and shot an elk twice. Both grenaded and the elk needed more killing. I was sure glad to have my brother in law beside me to back me up with a 338. The two I put into the elk were the last 405s I shot, and I dont think I will ever use them again at any speed. The damage on your deer is exactly what I would expect from that bullet. At least it is dead! Congrats on your 458AR kill.

Rem 405s are my favorite bullet for my 458 Lott...for ground squirrels and rock chucks! I don't doubt they penetrate at 1200fps but at higher velocity you kiss penetration goodbye.

My example is extreme, as I use the 405s at 2400 for varmints and it works real well Eeker

Just as a guess I would say the 405s work well at 1200-1500fps. For penetration at higher velocities one might look at bonded or mono metal bullets.

Rem 405s are cheap and give a good alternative to cast bullets. Just know what they are and don't expect more than what they are capable of delivering.
