Last week I found a new Winchester model 92 in .44 Mag. It has an octoganal barrel and buckhorn sights and the serial number says #250 of 500. They are asking $800 for it. I'm not sure if it's worth it. I wouldnt mind having a model 92 in a modern cartridge and I would shoot the rifle reguardless of it's value, rifles are for shooting not keep in a box. With all the press about winchester going out of business I was just wondering if it was worth the money. any input would be welcome. The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends. I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

yan I cannot make a comment on the value of the rifle, but I can speak on the utility of a 44 Mag rifle. I have had 3 over the years. The first was the original Ruger 44 Deerstalker. It was my forst deer rifle, wish I still had it. Second I had a Marlin Lever, it was a good rifle but a buddy talked me out of it, and now I have a Winchester Trapper. The 44 rifle kills deer and pigs as good, maybe even better than a 30-30 out to 125 yards. I also consider it better for protection from big animals, with the proper bullet, than the 30-30. In fact I got the Winchester Trapper for my wife as a "camp" gun in bear country. It has a peep sight and shoots into one hole at 75 yards with Speer 270 SP. I really like a 44 Mag rifle a lot. Especially since we use the 44 mag revolver quite a bit. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
