The Kahles 2-7x36 offers low weight, good "fixed" eye relief along with impressive optical performance for $500. Should I look at something different? PS. I'm nixing 1970's Nickel 'Supra' 2,5x from active duty on my .375H&H.
Thanks Crewe, I just had a wonderful 2-7x36 professionally mounted. The 3-9x42 was also nice, but for me if it's too far for 6x it's too far to shoot. I had to stop that magnification craze someplace. Those Austrians sure do make nice "crystal".
What Kahles 2-7-36 do you mean? I have a three year old Kahles AH 2-7-36 with the 4a reticule. I wanted something better than the Leu's and hoped that the Kahles would have better optics but I find them about the same as the Leu with less eye relief and a greater field of view.
There have been some new Kahles out since my purchase and the (AH) 'American Hunter'?? may have been dropped from the line?
I see the Kahles I have as having a second rate reticule system like the Leu's and not the superior ones like the Euro scopes and even the Zeiss Conquests have.
For $500 I would get a Conquest and save money at that. The best deal on them that I know of is from Camera Land over on 24HR Campfire.
It was $479 (installed & bore sigted) "Leupold" from Wien. I looked at both Zeiss Conquest and Leupold, but nixed the idea of getting them. Nice scopes if you are into 'Assembled in USA' thing. I just don't want to be reminded that I live in what is becoming a 3rd world economy. Hey, my Carl Zeiss *T camera lens system has Made in Japan on it, it's all good mate.
Listen up Pablo, I was assembled in the USA which is the greatest country on earth. Sure some cheapo stuff is imported here but the stuff that really counts like the best medical care and technology, the best military gear etc is assembled right here in my country.
The Ziess conquest is assembeld in the USA but leupold as far as I know are all built in beaverton oregon, not 25 miles from where i am sitting. Savage 99, I hate to tell you this but a good chunk of most of are military stuff is imported too ! I mean ceratin assembelies not entire units. ...tj3006
I believe in "made in USA" but when you want to get to the front of the line, and can afford it, the Swarovski or Schmidt & Bender line can't be beat. For most of my optics, I stay with Leupold, Burris or the older Redfield but if Swarovski or Schmidt & Bender was in my budget, I would step up.
