BusMaster007Why NOT?
Animals ain't HUMAN!
It'd be good practice.
Let the 'BUFF' know how tough he AIN'T. ( Like he'd realize it, anyway! )
Hey, does this gun have 'CRF'?
Is it good in the 'thick stuff'?
Should it have iron sights?
HEY~! I'm KIDDING!
Of course this gun 'qualifies', albeit at a 'distance'...

jeffeossothat's the phalanx, called r2d2 by swabbies...
excellent for anti-missle.. but the ship commander has to go weapons free for them to work. ... a literal wall of steel

schromfJeffeosso,
When these are in full automatic, they are nasty hunter seekers. When anything is outside the ship they are kicked into manual mode they atill seek and track, but they are manually fired.
There are also land based versions being fielded, they are for defense of RPG and mortars.
Raytheon also has a SeaRam version that has the gun turrent replaced with a 11 missile battery.
Of real interst is the round itself, has anybody paid any attention to these? Real long Ogive projectiles, compare this to a typical big bore side by side the firsat thing your going to notice is how long one of these loaded rounds is, and yes I am fully aware none of use are going to be using depleted uranuim projectiles, or any of the other tricked and expendive bullets but the comparision is interesting none the less.
