It is a later model with the cross pin. Starting price is in range. With that scope it will probably make it to $700+. Should make a nice rifle for someone.

Watch it EC that is a good one and will go over 700 in my opinion. I wish it had more and better photos. I am suspicious of the sling swivel being on the stock as all four of my Whitworths have barrel bands.
I think I'll send a question for an extra photo or two. This seller also has a .458 for sale with the barrel band and what appears to be the Whitworth name on the front bridge. It is already bid to where they are selling these days.

I had purchased a new surplus Whitworth stock. It looked exactly like that one. Front swivel on the stock. Had Whitworth on the pad and was made for the cross pin release. If you look on page 258 of "Bolt Action Rifles" you will see an exact copy of this rifle listed as a Mark X Whitworth.

The cross pin would indicate it is a late model MKX.

Still think it would be a nice rifle up to the $700 range.

I agree Frank, look closely at the cheek piece as well, that is not a Whitworth stock! Some one has restocked this rifle, and used the recoil pad, and cross bolt from the old one. The sling swivels being on the stock are sometimes installed by a person who uses their slein to wrap up in for shooting, and that doesn't work well with the sling attached to the barrel. The barrel ring swivel is uaoally left on however. I believe it is a whitworth rifle though, unless the guy who restocked it also bought an express sight, and installed it on a Interarms Alaskan. I'd want to see the Whitworth "NAME" on the rifle! Confused

I agree. I sent him a request for photos and he quickly replied so it may indeed be a Whitworth with a different stock. His other rifle, a 458 is a Whitworth plainly seen in his photo. It was a 700 plus last night so may reach 800 by the sale end.

That is certainly not a Whitworth cheekpiece, and the rear sight is a Williams like the one found on the Interarms Alaskan! The barrel seems thinner, and another difference between the Whitworth Express, and the Interarms Alaskan, is the lack of a cross bolt on the rifle pictured, and I'd bet my next retirement check, there is no recoil lug on the barres 4" in front of the reciever ring! The stock seems to be an old Fajen pattern!Confused

I just got a note from Dave the owner of the rifles. He sent me several photos and it is a Whitworth and that stock fits the rifle very well. I am going to try to post them here from my E-mail but it is a very nice rifle indeed.
Frank

I tried to copy them and post them here but can't do it. If you want to see these photos and the Whitworth inscription on the rifle please send me your e-mail and I will forward.
I had read that when Zastava terminated export and Whitworth ran out of enough parts to continue exporting those built in Manchester that all the parts were rounded up and the final rifles were assembled and sold off. This may have been one of those but I really believe it is a Whitworth that simply had a new stock put on it.
It really doesn't matter much because these are still one of the best purchases available and if it goes for $700 (which will be my top price if El Caballero quits on it) I would be very happy with that purchase.

This thread is too cool. Learning a bit too.

So I take it the interarms is not as high dollar as the whitworth. Is that right?

I noticed this difference in the two rifles he has for sale:

.375

.458

Does the difference in the magazine release mean anything?

Regards,

Terry

Like everything else in the world the extra quality tends to drive the price up.
The Whitworth was assembled in Manchester, England by Craftsmen who put more care and expertise into the finishing. I have found many Mark X's that were put together with every bit as much care. I also have a Whitworth that was a cheap POS and could use a real overhaul.

Terry I think the release on the bow indicates the older versions. I am no expert by any means but all of the rifles I have seen and those I have whether with the saftey on the inside of the trigger guard or the cross-bolt were very well made.Excepting the Whitworth I descibed above. It may be something as simple as a variation for cost effectivness after a few years. A simple design change. It would be good to have a gunsmith take a couple apart and have them analyze the differnces.

The early MKXs aqctions had the magazine release in the guard. The last couple of years of production they switched to the cross pin. Just like the new Daly's

The picture I posted was from Bolt Action Rifles. In it he states that the Whitworth came in calibers from 22-250-300Wmag. And the Whitworth Express came in the 375 H&H and 458. The picture only says Whitworth so I'm betting it is a smaller caliber. Thus no cross bolt and no express sights.
