H&W or Granite action based rifle in 460 Wby. If you wanted a big 45 and the rifle was built on a Granite or H&W would you take 460 Wby and the obvious convenience of brass or a 450 Rigby. Personally, I would have to have the rifle in 450 Rigby. But I am interested what others think about calibre and rifle matching and in particular expensive rifles. Mike

I'd go with the Granite Mt. chambered for the Rigby. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

I have not seen an H&W in action-only form, so it would be difficult to compare. As to finished product, there are fellows who can complete a rifle as nicely as H&W, but there are not a lot of them!

I did a switch barrel on the GMA action. The parent case I used is the 378 WBY. I have a total of 10 barrels that fit on this set up and I think is works really well. GMA will thread the action with a acme thread and that makes the barels swaps easy and very consistant. I have to vote for the GMA and see nothing wrong with making a 460 WBY. JMO

I think I have worded my opening post poorly. Was not looking for opinions on Granite Vs H&W but rather people's feeling on calibre and action matching purely on the basis.....does it seem right or go together.... Mike

Mike, if it is what you want then that is it. Personally I have and didn't have any problem with the GMA and a 460 (one of the barrels is a 460 wby). Do what you like. It's your money and either will make a nice rifle you can be proud of. John

John I don't have any interest in them myself but was just curious about how different people felt and especially putting big Wby calibres on magnum Mausers. Mike
