Hi you all folks i have just orderer a Remington model 700 Safari KS from their Custom shop, in .416 Rem caliber ... But as soon as I posted my order, I started to hear all kind of supposed facts concernig high pressure ticks related to this cartridge, worse if used in this particular rifle - with great chances to have a broken extractor (and as Murphys mandatory rules state, at the worst possible moment ) ... need to say none of the tellers opinions were first hand, always "heard from someone that ..." Is the mentioned rifle worth (always considering it to be used on dangerous game)??????? Is it extractor really weak? remember I am talking about a custom model, supposely to be made better thasn standard ones .... Thank you all in advance

1. There has always been lots of talk about Remington extractors breaking and push feed being an inferior choice for dangerous game. Personally I would never take a Rem to Africa, but you will probably make it to Africa and back without a problem. 2. Some of the early Rem factory loads were loaded too hot and there were sticky extraction problems as a result. That's because Rem wanted 2400 fps out of 400 grains, and the 416 rem case is too small to do that without high pressure. 3. Outdoor temps above 100 degrees can increase the pressure of your loads and cause sticky extraction. (Ray, I know you disagree with this, but I have personally experienced it). That's a good reason to use a low pressure cartridge for Africa. The 416 rem is not a low pressure cartridge. 4. Remingtons come with an unsafe trigger. For safety, you either need to put in an aftermarket trigger. [ 10-10-2003, 20:56: Message edited by: 500grains ]

Afrikaander, There is a current thread on the Africa Big Game Hunting Forum that covers this subject. http://www.nookhill.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=008565 I posted some information there on a Rem M700 .416 RM I got from the Custom Shop about a dozen years ago. The pressure problems with the cartridge have been commented on in African Hunter. You should read this article, and judge for yourself. http://african-hunter.com/lessons_learned.htm jim dodd
