George....I called Redding and talked to a gent named Perry. Very helpful. He said that the Ultramag press had a ram travel of just over 4". The specs on the Big Boss is 3 and 13/16". Since the 470 case is 3.25" and the loaded length is just a hair under 4", he determined that by the time you subtracted the shell holder (1/4"), that given the case and bullet length, the only press of Redding's that MIGHT work was the Ultramag. I'm trying to call RCBS as we speak as they have a press suitable for the 50 BMG...but I'm not sure if it takes the same type dies/ shell holders, etc. I'll post anything I find out....the big bore stuff is new to me....fun, but new. And after reloading for 25 years I thought I knew it all.....yeah, right. Gary B.

Take a look at the new Lee Classic Cast. It's steel, and quite a nice press... nothing cheap about it. They adevertise the "widest openinging in the industry". Don't know what the translates to in inches, but I can measure mine if you need the dimension.

You will have enough room to reload 50 BMG's on it Richard Corbin make's the part to turn it in to a realoding press for the really big case's The wall nut hill's press is 250.00 all the goodie's will be about 60.00 more then just use your die's and shell holder... It's not a high spped reloding press but it will last a life time if your just going to be reloading shell's with it.. http://www.rceco.com/bulletmetal.htmRichard's not taking call's for a few day's as his still recovering from the Welll ..Uh he's still recovering from Christmas..but you can still email him.. For price info richard@rceco.com

I like my RCBS AmmoMaster Single Stage Press. It will handle the .50 BMG. It handles my .416 Rigby and .470 NE loading with no problems. -Bob F.

| Just....FINALLY...got thru to RCBS. The new Rock Chucker Supreme has new additonal length...similar to the Ammo Master. It Will handle the 470...it has a 4 and 5/8" ram travel. Since I have been using a Rock Chucker for 25 years...actually on my second one, I am going to go ahead and order the Supreme....it's $60 cheaper than the Ammo Master. Thanks so much gang for the responses. Onward and upward.

I use an RCBS Rockchucker for everything including 470 Nitro. The trick is to relieve the shellholder to be able to seat the bullet. I took an RCBS 470NE shellholder and ground away outer lip that the rim fits in to allow the case to slip out before the case is fully out. If you look at it from the top it looks like a Y rather than a U. Don't grind back as far as the center hole. Works VERY good and does not affect anything else. Still maintains full strength as you only have half a circle contact with the rim in any case.

If you can find one, a Lyman "O-Mag" should work for you. I just measured the travel on mine and with the shell holder it is 4" even. They are old but they turn up on E-Bay from time to time. Here is one listed there now.

I chose the RCBS Ammo Master Single stage press after making a study of them all...It very strong, has a lot of room to work in and will even load 50 Cal.MG ammo if need be as it has a collar to take the bigger dies. I love that press and I load a lot of N.E. cartridges, its the only one that has room for the loaded ammo and my fat fingers and it has room to spare when I eject that loaded round from the seater.... For the smaller stuff I still use my old Hollywood monster press...
