It seems to me that I lost one case when I was necking my .505 Gibbs brass up to .510. The body of the case or the neck collapsed. Right after that I got smart and liberally smeared the expander ball with graphite. Greatly reduced effort, smooth operation, and no more trashed cases.

The recoil wouldn't be any more noticeable but the animal would get hit harder. That's why the Gibbs, whether .505 or .510 is the king of Class III, not a Class IV. 'nuff said.

Ok,,Oldsarge,i must admit ihave always wanted to provoke you and other fellas who find cartridges like the.460 Wby and other "hot-rods" too powerfull. And a .510 Gibbs could certainly be one of the biggest cases one can get for hunting applications. I guess your quite a nostalgian guy, and of course nothing wrong with that. Just when i saw tah you considering the .510 Gibbs, had me sending a spontaneous reaction,,so take my comment with a grain or two with salt !!
Hope you decide for the .510 Gibbs ,,and load it as high as you can ,and have others to shoot it [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Pers,
I've got a Gibbs case sitting on my bookshelf right in front of my copy of Ruark's Use Enough Gun because it would definitely be enough gun for anything this side of the Cretaceous. Unfortunately, I've got so damned many things on my plate now that it will probably be a long time before I ever get around to it. Oh well, it will make a great retirement projectt to keep me out of my wife's hair.
Good hunting, brother.
