In answer to you question on another thread I have some experience with these bullets on game.

In my 450 No2 I have recovered 500gr Swift A Frames and 480gr Woodleighs [I no not 550gr, but Woodleighs none the less] from cape buff and eland. Woodleighs and Swifts from both animals.

Both bullets expanded very well, and almost exactly equally well, which suprised me as I did not think the Swift would expand as well as the Woodleigh's at Nitro Express velocities @2150fps. Looking at them from the top you could not tell which was which.

The Swift does have a longer shank behind the mushroom as it stops expanding at the paretition.

I would expect the Swift to be a better bullet at higher velocities vs the Woodleigh.

If I shot a 458 Lott, 450 Dakota, 460 Weatherby, etc I would definately use the 500gr Swift SP.

Also I have recovered some .408 diameter 400gr Woodleigh softs from a lion. Two of them shot frontol on at 90 yards and one shot at point blank through the spine.

All of them expanded perfectly, the one at point blank range a little more.

I also shot a cape buff with the 400 softs, again with perfect results.

And as further info on Woodleigh Softs I have recovered several from game taken with my 9,3x74R in 286gr., the standard RN not the protected poing, velocity @2225 fps or so.

All of them whether fired from 250 yards, or point blank as a finisher, have expanded well and held together perfectly.

I have recovered them out of game from whitetail deer to cape buff.

I also killed a black bear with a 180 Woodleigh Soft out of a factory Federal load in 308, bullet was a pass through and not recovered.

At the velocities that I have used them, I would have to rate the Woodleigh Softs at Great bullets.

In my doubles, I would happily use them as the only softs and be perfectly happy.

For higher velocities I would give the Swifts a hard look.

My wife killed her cape buff with one shot from my [well She and Rusty call it hers] 450/400 3 1/4" using a Barnes X bullet of .408 diameter.

This bullet was recovered, from a quartering on shot and it too expanded perfectly and gave deep penetration. It was fired at 2200fps and did not loose any petals.

I have done a lot of shooting with my doubles, and other rifles as well.

Sometimes I dig around in the ground to recover the fired bullets. When ever I am shooting in rocky soil there is one result that is always present...

Even if ALL the other bullets are reduced to very small pieces, some even to dust, X bullets ALWAYS remain as a BIG CHUNK. they may loose their petals, but the rest of the bullet is intact. Even it it has been hit by other bullets.

Now I am not an X bullet freek....
But it does get my attention, and is something to think about.

Bullets built like the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw and North Fork Softs show this same intact shank....

Something to think about, especially with higher velocity cartridges.
