I just recently purchased a Ruger #1 in the Boddington Series, in the .450 NE 3 1/4 inch caliber. I am looking for load data and bullet weight for this caliber. Any help will be appreciated. I do have the data from "Load Data.com".

According to my QuickLoad 95 grains of H4831 with a 500 grain Nosler Partition will give you 2092 FPS with moderate pressure. In that light Ruger #1 that should be on the verge of "Brisk" recoil.

Use Federal 215 primers.

Most accurate full power load in my No.1 was
76.0 gr. of Varget, Win Mag Rifle primers and
a 480 gr. Woodleigh RNSP. 2130 FPS with 18 FPS
extreme spread. Bell cases.
95.0 gr of IMR4831 gave 2160 FPS with Fed.215
primers in mine. Not as accurate, but still
very good. Back off some and start safe with
your new toy. Nice choice in rifles.
Good Luck

Msorenso: Not sure if Ruger plans to make the .450 NE 3 1/4 in a normal production or not. To make sure I had one to shoot, I purchased the Boddington set of five rifles plus an extra .450, in the Boddington Series.

Shot it already with some load data I found but soon learned that it was to much to shoot from a bench to sight the rifle in. Looking for something a little more comfortable. Also had a one inch shotgun recoil pad put on it, plus a recoil reducer in the stock. With the right load I am sure it will be a great gun to shoot.

Geez! I cannot imagine what it must be like to shoot that caliber. I have a Ruger #1 in 45/70 and with max loads and heavy bullets (400 gr.) it is NOT a fun gun to shoot. With 350's it is fine.

PM me and I will send you some load data.
I put a 16 oz mercury tube in the stock of mine it helped the balance (was barrel heavy) and recoil.
Lots of fun with the Leverevolution 325 Grain FTX bullets.

After the Boddington .450NE's are done Ruger are going to make the .303 British ,this seems to indicate Ruger will not make a standard No1 as you would think all 450's would be done in one production run not change calibres and then go back to a previous calibre as it does not make operational sense but I could be wrong and this would make the Boddington sets very collectable if Ruger does not make a standard No1.

The current price for the Bodington 450 NE that I paid was $1200 plus tax. I got mine from Scheel's. They have a number of stores in the Midwest.

It may be tough to find one at this time. Check on GunBroker.com and Cabela's Gun Library. I only know of one other person who purchased one to actually shoot, all the rest were looking at it as a collecter's item. Most were purchased in the set of five Bodington Series. I also have a relatively heavy 30mm 1.25-4 scope mounted.
I will weigh it when I get home and post.
It is a pussycat to shoot with full house 500 grain woodleighs and 325 grain Hornady FTX ( my groundhog hunting load )

Go on Hornady's web site, click on contact us and ask them for the load info. I did for 450/400 3" and they gave me the full load data page.

I had ordered one and got it on tuesday, bought it to shoot! Hopefully kill something big with it someday. Right now the only thing getting killed is me trying to find some factory ammo and reloading components, EXPENSIVE!
