Hello, I am mounting a 2 1/2 power Lyman All-American on my Pre-64 Model 70 in Buehler 2 piece bases. On the rear base there are 3 holes, the base could be mounted to overhang the front of the rear bridge. Or mounted with the rear overhanging a small amount. Which way is correct? Any help would be appreciated.

Never used one on any of the Mag Model 70's whether .300 or .375. However, I would think overhang to front. Otherwise it might rub bolt opening to the rear if overhung that way. Maybe the three holes are so it could be used on either a Pre or a post 64 action. Anyway, you got a good rig for a .375

Thanks for the reply. It actually won't hit the rear because the camming action of the bolt (the handle must start to close before the overhang). I thought it would be nice not to have any obstructions over the loading port, but I'm not sure that would be an issue anyway. I just want to know the "correct" way to do it. Thanks again.

It is my understanding that the reason the Buehler mounts had 3 holes was so they could be used on either standard or H&H magnum length actions. They have different hole spacings on each. You can mount it either way. I have done this on my pre 64s and have not had any problems. One of the things I like about the Buehlers is I have never had them leave ring marks on any scopes.

I would bet the base was intended to hang over the front of the bridge(over the loading port). I don't really like anything hanging the bridge, but that is how many bases are manufactured. If you really want to know the "correct" way you could call Bob Ray at Buehler. The company has been out of business for years but Bob still answers the phone. I should say, he answered the phone when I called about a year ago. Bob is a great guy BTW.
