Woe is me (375 question) Login/Join

I leave for Tanzania on Aug. 27. The main quarry is lion.
The outfitter (who is a friend) insisted on adding an elephant on my license, but I don't really have any interest in one (so consider that one an non-issue).

Here is the tale of woe (with my question):
I was having a 400 Whelen built, Rigby (original) pattern stock, Mauser receiver, Rigby peep...the whole nine yards.
My stockmaker was supposed to send it for the colorcase hardening last week, but his wife "forgot", and left it in the trunk of the car. They are looking for it now.

For a back up, I have a custom 375 wildcat (that I developed), based on the 9.3X64 case, in a Mauser rifle.
(Let's not get into the "you can't take wildcats to Africa" debate, because I have in the past, and will again).

It shoots a Nosler 300 grain partition into .75 inches (3 shot group) at 100 yards (2450 fps).

I have about 80 rounds loaded, and sighted in (from previous hunts 5 years ago).

So, as a back up, for lion, should I use the 300 grain Nosler ammo?
Or, begin (this weekend) some new loads with the new TripleX 270 bullets I purchased for experimenting with.

I hate gunsmiths.
I really, really do.

I would not be afraid to use the 300 gr Nosler Partition on lion, or even on Buff for the first shot. Just work up a solid load for the elephant that hits as close to the Nosler load as possible. As long as you solid is doing 2200fps or better it will work on elephant.

You may be plesantly excited when hunting elephants. I would rather hunt elephants, bulls or cows, that ANY OTHER ANIMAL.

Thanks Nitro for your input.

I should point out, I meant to type TripleX 270 grain bullets (.375).

There seems to be a lot of respect for the 270 grain bullets for lion (in .375 caliber), which is why I ask about the 300 grain Noslers.

The 300 Nosler is a good choice for all big game in the 375.
Personally I would rather use the Nosler on Lion than the X bullet.

The 300 grain Noslers in 375cal. are an excellant choice for lion. For the elephant the 375 will get the job done with a good solid.
