Project planning
Gunsmith and I laid a plan for a custom build rifle today.
I want a 40 cal. Narrowed down to .404 jeff
or .416 rigby. I have never shot either so would like pros and cons on both.
This will be built on a montana ph action.
bbl not yet decided.
ballistics seem similar with 400 gr bullet.
what is recoil like ? ammo availability?
etc.
Was offered a syn. stock but turned that down.
It will sport a proper walnut stock.
Thanks for the help.

416 Rigby would be my choice. No use wasting a big action on a 404J.

On a normal size action, I would vote for the 404 but not if you are using a PH..
