I would like some opinions on this subjuct. What would be a better load combo for African dangerous game using the .500 A2 between the 570 gr Barnes TSX/570 gr Barnes Banded Solid combo.....OR.....the A-Square 600 gr Dead Tough/600 gr Mono Solid combo, assuming that all loads show good accuracy. I figure to run them all stiff but certainly not at max levels, Maybe 2300-2350 fps for the 600's and about 2400 fps or so for the 570's. I would think they would all do a fine job but would like to hear from someone with real experience on this matter. I like the flatter trajectory and versatility of the 570 TSX and most seem to believe that fp solids are better than rn solids, providing they feed well in your rifle. However, I like the fact that A-Square's Triad shoots to the same point of impact and I think 600 grains is a good weight for this caliber with a good S.D. and 650-700 gr seems even better to me. BTW, why did A-Square drop their monsterous old 707 gr loading?

I have used Woodleighs and Barnes Xs in my .500 A2. I have only used the Woodleigh 600 grain solid on game, though. I am going to go with the Barnes 570 grain TSX and banded solid bullets for this year's hunting, mostly for the reasons you state. I use RL15 and H4350 and can easily achieve 2,400-2,500 fps with these bullets/powders. That's right where I want to be. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I have only used Woodleigh PSP in my 500 A2 as it did not like Barnes (mediocre accuracy and heavy copper fouling). The Woodleighs produce good accuracy and have worked well on buffalo, elk, and deer. I load with IMR3031 as the slower powders did not work in my rifle. Good luck.
