I have very good things about the Brockman CZ stock. I am planning on getting one. I have a couple questions.

1. Does anyone know the amount/type of work the unfinshed stock requires?

2. The price of the unfinished and the drop in?

3. Does it wiegh more or less than the factory stocks?

I know that I can call and ask them that but remembering during thier working hours is the tough part Roll Eyes

Thanks for any help you guys have!

fireman....don't want to look like I am hijacking your thread, but if I could ask another question to go along with yours....is it available in some other laminate colors, or solid wood, so you don't have that light/dark layer look? Thanks. Again, fireman, great questions, some of the ones I have been wondering about.

Hey fireman,

I called brockman last week to ask how much his CZ stocks are (unfinished vs finished). Apparently he is out of town, and the girl who answered didn't know the prices herself. They are to call me back this week. Once they do, I'll let you know.

www.brownells.com has the finished ones (out of stock right now though) for about $380 I think. Anyway, good luck. Myself, I ended up buying a new 550 after all.

McMillan's wanted roughly $750 for a bedded CZ550 stock.

Good luck,

-eric

I have a Brockman laminate on my 416Rigby CZ550. I bought it several years ago so don't know the current price. I got the drop-in unfinished and had him leave off the recoil pad and front sling swivel ( I shoot a 13 1/2" stock and wanted a Pachmeyer Decellerator and I installed a barrel band swivel) which he graciously did. He does not inlet the extra recoil lug on barrel. Mills a groove but does not fully inlet. Just a minor fitting job. If you glass the stock in all honesty you could probably get by without it. Mine is the CZ model shown in webpage. It has NO cheekpiece. Semmed to weigh about the same as the factory stock but in all honesty I didn't weigh them. My finished rifle weighs 8 3/4 lbs without scope. However my barrel has been cut to 21" and a NECG front ramp with elevation adjustable front blade. Works beautifully. Brockman doesn't show any different colors on his web page but he is a most agreeable professional to work with. I reccomend his stock highly for the CZ. It could probably be thinned a little thru the action and probably the forearm although I like the full forearm. I took a nice 45# Bull in the Matetsi in 2004 with it. Hope this helps.
He is probably at the SCI convention which is where I met him.

Teat hound, you're gonna love it. They are a great rifle. I'm looking forward to hearing what he has to say.

Zim... thanks for the info. It's good to know he is easy to work with. When you say that the front barrel lug,do you mean the f block? I'm kinda confused since you say I might not need it if I glass bed the rifle?

Did you special order yours with out a check piece? How was the laminate to finish? Did you checker it?

Thanks!

At the time I ordered mine he only made the one model without the cheekpiece. By front lug I mean the one on the barrel under the rear sight. The stock was no different to finish than any laminate. They have to be filled and carefully sanded as the glue is harder than the plys so require careful sanding. I finished in teak oil and it's a nice finish. I'm thinking about thinning it thru the action and adding a grip cap. I don't checker so I would have to have it done and just haven't gotten around to it. I have a laminate on my Mdl 70 375 SS and it isn't checkered either. Actually like the feel of no checkering but stock looks unfinished without it.

Zim, okay, that's what I thought you meant. I was a little confused. Did you use the F block on yours? I plan to leave it off to save weight. Did he do the metal work?

My rifle is fully glassed and the barrel block is used. All work by myself or locally. In fact the lug was glassed in and machined to fit in milling machine. Only other thing done was to straighten bolt handle. I will probably replace the handle as I don't like CZ/Brno handles. They are a little short and I don't like the shape of the hollow knob. In all honesty I don't know why as it will probably never be used again. I probably will never make it back to Africa.
