It's a machined block that is contoured to fit the barrel and is pinned, screwed, and soldered to the shank of the barrel. I will try to get a photo but don't hold me to it.

There is a old trick I learned many years ago, that produces the best barrel mounted recoil lugs. Take a 1/2x1/2x3/4 block of steel and drill two holes through it and relieve for cap head screws. Using a milling machine and a fly cutter( set to exactly the barrels diameter) mill the block to produce a concave surface that exactly matches the barrel contour. Now using the block as a drilling fixture, drill and tap the two holes. Attach the block using Brownells low temp solder while screwing the block to the barrel. Remember to glass bed the new barrel mounted recoil block to the stock FIRST before attempting to glassed the rest of the action. Otherwise you'll never get the barrel out of the stock again. I've done probably 30 guns this way and none have ever cracked their stocks.-Rob

Rob, Our process is very similar except we use a .250" hardened pin that is press-fit into the barrel and lug and an 8-36 screw. The whole mess is then soldered on. Haven't had one come loose yet.
