BiebsAnyone ever form 416 Howell brass from 404J?
The 416 Howell cartridge is based on the 404 Jeffery. Has anyone here ever done it, or know the process?

Dan416From Howell's book, p. 340, "Anneal neck and shoulder of .404 Jeffry brass. Form in RCBS .416 Howell form and trim die. Ream inside neck with RCBS neck-ream set. Trim to 2 1/2 inches and deburr. Fire-form with inert filler."
I would probably skip the inside ream step. Measure a fired case, neck thickness and neck of ctg with bullet seated and you will learn if reaming is necessary. You don't need a form and trim die either. A FL sizer will work.

jeffeossonot bragging, just sharing a conversation i had with ken.
I talked with Ken about my 416 AccRel.. which he thought was a bit smarter, in that it used readily available RUM brass, and that i setup the case to NOT do any reaming or turning...
great case.. winchester VERY nearly picked it up.. the howell that is.

BiebsThanks guys. Yes, I've heard of some folks using Ultramag cases to make the 416 Howell.

ramrod340If I was going to build a 416 Howell or 416 AccRel it would be the AccRel easier to form and more capacity.
