Easy guys. I didn't want to start a fight. I was just asking about it because it looked interesting for a possible future purchase. My present big bore, besides a 45/70 and I don't want to open that kettle of fish , is a Win Mod 70 Super Express in .375 H&H. I'm happy with it but you know how it is to look around. Maybe I'll try to get one of the Savages inhand to see how it feels. Thanks for the links George. I only searched here and not in the African Big Game section. Sounds like people either love them or hate them. Guess I'll just have to look around to find one and make my own decision or maybe another Mod 70 will pop up. Again thanks to all and if anyone else has anything to add please do.

Tigertate-yes that extractor does look small, but it seems to work. The best thing I likes about Savages I handled is the classic style stocks fit great, were heavier than most the way I like them, much like Ruger classic stocks. And they have room to lengthen port and mag for my long wildcats, due to the way trigger housing is attached.Ed.

Not to start a fight, but I think the "rim tear off" argument is a bit over-rated. I would not worry too much about it if I were any of you. Does the Savage have a fixed blade ejector, or is it a spring loaded plunger style? If the price is right, and you like the feel of the weapon, I say go ahead and get it. Be warned though that the elitist/purist will chastise you. Scott
