Hi all. As many have read, Michael458 is doing some new load research on .458 Win Mag for us. I would very much like for him to include AA-2230 in his studies.

Problem is that in our current environment...AA-2230 is almost unobtainable. If anybody knows where some could be had...I would gladly buy it and pay shipping straight to Michael.

Rich...

Can you point me in the right direction? I looked Midway, Graf, Midsouth, Powder Valley yesterday and there was basically ZERO anything that we would normally use.......????? I put in for notifications on lots of stuff, Midway sent this morning on RL 10X, which I use a good bit of in several various cartridges and was able to get 10 lbs... But that was ALL... Nothing else..........

I saw some at a gun show 11/10, on a dealers table. Could have been old stock. I didn't ask, nor did I take his contact info. sorry.

Michael,
Good luck with the XTerminator powder. This is what I use with my stretched .450 Marlin. In the Browning BLR I got those higher velocities and energies I reported. It was the densest powder in that category so got a whoooole lot more of it (by weight) in the case.

I will be very interested in the data Michael produces with X-terminator vs. AA-2230. I have been told that X-terminator IS 2230 with a different label. If so...Michael should get a hint of it with his testing.

Lane..........

Well....... No calls here today that I am aware of... So maybe I get lucky? I would not fret it too much, I bet we can come up with something just as good as AA2230! In fact, tell you what I will do, make a little bet with you we can equal or better, I win, you buy the beer, you win, I buy the beer! hilbily

I made three orders yesterday quickly Powder Valley I went ahead and got 16 lbs of IMR 8208, I use a lot of that anyway.. and 1 lb of H-4895, and this was shipped today for a fact.

Brunos 2#s of AA2230, 8#s H-4198, 8# XTerminator, 8#s TAC, and they said they had Fed 215s so I picked up an extra 5000 of those.... No calls yet? So maybe we get lucky and have the X and the AA2230?

Then Lohman I order 2#s of AA 2230, 10#s RL7, 8#s H-4198, 8#s H-322, 8#s Win 748, and I picked up some more Fed 215s ???? But I don't think Lohman has anything "In STOCK"... I don't know? We will find out, it comes it comes.... Hopefully.....

I received a notification from Midway at 4:15 PM... WW748 8# in Stock... By the time I got there 1 hour later.. Nothing Left, all gone, OUT OF STOCK........

Have to check every day.....

Michael

I know better than to bet with the Master...but what the hell...in the .458 WM...I bet it is at the top of the chart! (with the exception of X-terminator). But...I would buy you a beer anyway anytime...so if I loose...not really a loss! Wink

Lane........... beer

Actually I am looking forward to 458 Winchester........ It presents more of a challenge perhaps than 458 Lott does to me. With its limited capacity it has always got a bum rap from those that do not understand the cartridge, or caliber. It is always preached the 458 Win could not do this, nor that and always about the 500 gr .458s..... Well 458 Win has and will always be its best with a 450 for the heavies! While I have run 500s to the magical 2150, I have never taken a 458 Win, or its equal the 458 B&M to the field with anything heavier than the 450s, and the 450s have never let me down, elephant buffalo or hippo! Back in the days before the #13s, I used the 450 Barnes Banded exclusively as the Solid, along with 450 Swifts, 400 Swifts, 400 Woodleighs and so forth, heavier 450 Swift for buffalo, and the 400s for everything else, with incredible good success, just as good as the 458 Lotts with the 500s and the same bullets! And TODAY... With our new Bullet Tech from CEB and North Fork... Really, there is no need for the Lott any more!!!!!!!! I said NEED, or REQUIRED, not desired........ 458 Win will do it all with ease and then some. Today, I would not carry a 24 inch gun, so I carry the 18 inch 458 B&M running 450s at 2200-2225 fps and they do great......... 24 Inch 458 Win we should touch 2300 with 450s without much problem... I think? We will learn eh??????

All good stuff........... I hate that lott I am testing with, big stupid looking POS....... The 458 Win we will be testing with is a Win M70 24 inch gun, one of those Big 5 guns from the old Custom Shop..... A real rifle.....

The 416 Remington is another Win M70 24 inch barrel one of the few Stainless guns that came out of the Custom Shop back in the day as well..... Another real rifle.....
