550 Magnum question

CCMDoc550 Magnum question
I'd like to have Neil's 550 Magnum built on a stainless action. Can the bolt face on a MRC stainless long action (not the PH - I am pattiently waiting for my stainless version for my 600 OK Alaskan) safely be opened up enough to build one?
Thanks

jeffeossothe casehead is .590 (ish) .. if the bolt is .700, just barely yes .. i talked to neal today... there's more brass on the way

CCMDocThanks Jeffe
I'll have to ask Jeff of MRC about bolt diameter - the 1999 Long action comes standard with .534 bolt face so my thoughts are adistinct "maybe".
Good news on the brass!

Rub Line1999's are not in production at MRC. The 1999 parts are tied up in bankruptcy. I was waiting since July for mine and was told it will be at least ten more weeks. I gave up on them, hopefully you have your own action and are not planning on ordering one.

I didn't realize that the 1999 was affected by the same parts problems as the PH.

Well, there goes that idea ...

Guess I'll wait for my SS PH and build my 600 OK Alaskan (SS action, SS barrel, laminate stock) then.

jeffeossocall MRC, see where you action is, and if its ready, get a barrel ordered ... heck, 10 weeks is just barely overly long for ordering a barrel these days

jro45I am waiting for my Rem 416 new barrel its been over 3 months. But it finely came.

10 weeks is just an answer that MRC came up with in november. I was told 90 days in July. The actual timeframe appears to be unknown.

Thanks for the offer. Actually I was looking for a stainless steel action that I would put a SS barrel an laminate stock on for as close to a true all-weather big bore as possible.
Thanks again,
