Pics of my 404 and my 416 rigby I'm working on, the bastone is the Jeffery. Redid the pics from another site, yahoo doesnt work.

I made the pattern for the Jeffery, its a win classic, Sunny Hill bottom metal, I've posted the Barreled action before. Just got the Stock back from the duplicator.

Gringo,
The pictures didn't show for me. Could be my home computer. It has been getting wobbly lately. How do you like the Sunny Hill bottom metal for the 404? Did you say you had Dennis Olson set up the box for slick feeding? Does it hold 4 down of the 404s? How much farther does it stick down compared to the factory set-up? Can I rent your reamer? Pretty please??

Lawndart,

It does hold 4 down, I rented the reamer, Dewight Marshall in Refugio Texas screwed the barrel on it for me and mounted sites etc.

Dennis did the feeding. I would say the bottom metal hangs down about 1/4 inch or so, maybe a little more than factory. I'm using a factory 300 Utramag follower and box. The sunny-hill bottom metal look nice and its well done, but its big, but I like it.

Billy,

I don't think Yahoo allows Direct Linking of pictures, try www.photobucket.com as a host.

Or email the pics to me and I will post them.

Regards,

Terry

I think you already talked about this (sorry, I lost most of my 404 threads during the AR move to eve), but did you make the pattern stock, or did your duplicator/stockmaker already have one? Who turned it for you?
I know I am shamelessly exploiting your hard work and experience. I learned that from my ex-wife. Fortunately her lessons in how to avoid sex never took.
Thanks,

lawndart

PS My sister (the watercolor artist one) has a place in Port Aransas. Next time I'm down visiting lets go catch some Redfish. I have access to a boat so long as I gas it back up and clean the salt and fish guts off of it.

Lawndart,

I did make the pattern, I have it, its laying on my huntin buggy in the garage.

Mike Kokolus turns my stocks and is one of the best, , it turned out pretty good, came out good enough Mike turned him a stock for a pattern from my pattern.

Might just take you up on the fishing, I don't do much of it anymore, we have an offshore boat, but never use it.

Gringo,
I hope this does not upset you but the top piece is a poorly laid out piece of wood for a big bore rifle, prone to shear in the grip..It should have never been a stock blank or it was cut upside down perhaps..It is pretty and would be fine on a 222 I suspose..The other piece is suitable..I would return it if I could.

For a big bore rifle request only a quarter sawn blank with the grain starting at the heel and running straight up through the grip at a slightly upward or straight path and straight to the forend or as close to that as you can get. Slab sawed is pretty and marble cake is colorful, but not on a using rifle IMO.

Ray,

You are correct, should have been done different, won't go into details, but didn't turn out as planned. This was the the first cut on my pattern, I have two more bastone blanks that arent as pretty but better suited. I'll reinforce the grip and see how I like the pattern, then go from there.
