I have a CZ550 Safari Magnum in 416 Rigby.

Question, how do you adjust this trigger? I have two issues:

1. The "regular" trigger setting is 3.5 pounds, just right; however, the "set" trigger is 12 ounces not even a pound -- way too much of a "hair" trigger for my taste. Is it possible to increase the setting for the set trigger while leaving the "regular" trigger "as is?"

2. The "regular" trigger has a long and "gravelly" pull. How does one shorten the pull and "smooth it out?"

Love the rifle, but just trying to get it "just so". Any advice from your personal experiences with the CZ would be much appreciated.

EKM,
There is a set trigger adjustment screw. If you turn it in, clockwise, it will increase the weight of the set trigger pull. If you screw it in all the way, it will completely block and disable the set trigger from being "set." You then have a single non-set trigger.

Do you have the little manual that comes with the gun? There is a paragraph or two on trigger adjustment and the exploded diagram identifies the trigger adjustment screws.

I am not a gunsmith and shouldn't say anymore about the adjustments, but it is not as simple as an M70 or M700.

The trigger in non-set mode is not that great, but can be slicked up and adjusted to eliminate the creep, and when you can get it to 3.5 to 4 lbs and have the set trigger at 1.5 lbs, it will do for me.

RIP,

I got the rifle used and thus no owners manual; however, I have downloaded the one from the www.CZ-USA.com website. You're right, the directions are sparse, but along with the diagram should suffice for some initial experimentation, especially if I keep track on paper of how many turns in which direction then at least I can get back to square one.

It's always nice to get at least some initial indication of how challenging or doable its goint to be before "diving in". I will report final results, win -- lose -- or draw.
