How much freebore is standard with the 470 Capstick? I know it's supposed to have a straight (parallel not conical throat). I was wondering because I have a CZ 550 which should allow me to seat the bullet out further than normal if I have some freebore. I've also read ("Any Shot You Want") that used in moderation in a straight throat it doesn't adversely effect accuracy.

Chuck

If 2380fps with a 500gr. bullet isn't enough for you, build a .470AR or .470 Mbogo.

I'm considering that as well George, but the ability to have 5 in the magazine rather than 3, factory ammo and dies available, and cases at $1.50 apiece instead of $3.00 are considerations as well. I'm also looking at the 475 A&M. Decision time is end of October when I'm sending my rifle to Jim Dubell.

Chuck.....I suggest that you email Dave at PTG and ask him as he has the specs for reamers and that is a spec he can tell you about.

IMO a bit more freebore isn't a bad idea at all because things like a 470 Capstick are usually not fired at long ranges and accuracy issues are not normally a concern.....Weatherby chambers are freebored and we don't hear anyone complaining about accuracy with them.

George's comments are right on the mark.....500 grains at 2400 fps isn't exactly chickenshit.....and T-Rex is long extinct. If one needs more than that it's likely just to feed ones ego and not for Mbogo.....but feeding egos is OK too!

'Freebore' can be used to reduce pressures somewhat (a la Weatherby), but not much else.

For what it's worth, none of these rounds is 'factory-loaded'. You may be able to obtain ammunition from custom loading houses like Superior Ammo, but you're probably not going to find them at your local store (and you definitely won't find them in Africa).

Pick one cartridge, and build the rifle already.
